Missile Attack On Passenger Jet?
Radio News | November 28, 2005

Posted on 11/28/2005 4:49:25 AM PST by texianyankee

I heard on the radio this morning, that a pilot of a passenger jet departing LAX claimed to have narrowly avoided being hit by a missile. It was reported that the jet was about 6,000 feet in altitude & over the ocean when the event occurred. The news report further stated that authorities believe it was possibly a flare or a "bottle rocket."

I googled but found nothing. Anyone else have some info on this? I dont recall whether it was CBS or NBC radio news.

"Thaw the chicken.""

(I hate to mention mythbusters twice in one thread, but...)

They tested the "chicken cannon" story by building a chicken cannon and firing both frozen and thawed chickens at airplane windshields. They found no difference in damage between thawed or frozen chickens. At that kind of speed, kinetic energy is all that matters.

"No one that knows anything about aviation saw the first tower smoking and said "Ummmm, probably control failure."

One of our military aircraft accidentally flew into the Empire State building during WW2, killing several people.

Flight accidents happen. Buildings do get hit by accident. It was the 2nd plane that confirmed that 9/11 was no accident.

Agreed. I always thought it was a missile but I had some vestige of hope that the Govt' wouldn't do that to us. Hearing it from a Clintonista was the kicker.

Thanks for responding Doug. So far it seems that only out of State FReepers heard the ABC News Radio report. However at least six FReepers report hearing the story at different broadcast times.

That makes it appear that the story was broadcast more than once before it was squelched.

I remember listening to WABC on 9/11 as well, and hearing what you heard. See my post 155.

Do you remember if that FBI statement was read on-air by an ABC news national correspondent, or by Curtis or Kuby?

My memory is that is was a national correspondent, but I'm not sure.

"Haven't you ever seen three stage bottle rockets?"

You are joking right?

The biggest model rocket engine can *maybe* go 1000 feet. Prolly a lot less carrying another stage.

I heard it on a Pennsylvania station, and it was definitely a national correspondent.

I also heard it on an ABC news station, but can't remember if it was at 6 or 6:00 (too lazy to open my eyes and look at a clock!)

I vaguely remember Ron Kuby reporting at about 9:30 that the FBI had just issued a statement saying it was definitely not terrorism. It was already painfully obvious that that was incorrect, and the hosts noted it. Again, "just issued" could mean after the first hit, as the timeframe was very compressed. But I'll never forget those broadcasts. I think the WABC website (or George Weber's page there) has (or had) actual snippets if you have the stomach to relive them.

Yes, you've jogged my memory, I think you're right.

Thanks for the tip on George Weber's webpage. But right again, 9/11 still makes me so furious, I may not go there for awhile!

I can't remember what's currently there. It is amazing how this thread jogged my memory too. I was just driving to work as usual and heard the first report, then the national news at 9 am, and the second strike. I was terrified. I got to the office about quarter to ten, and after the first tower fell I just shut the radio off in my office and sat there, silent, for several minutes. Ugh. I think I'll spare you the rest. You were there to - we all were. But it does make me angry. Too many people have forgotten, as well. Oh my. what can I say? thanks for helping me remember too.

Where's Pierre Salinger when you need him?

Pierre knew too much and talked too much - he is no longer with us.

That was 55 or so years previous, and if I recall in rain/fog conditions. 9/11 was a large, modern commercial airliner on a clear sunny morning. The odds of this happening accidentally are astounding.
