I am sick of people suggesting that we need to ruin the country to pay for Social Security. It is a myth anyway that migrants will pay for SS. The people coming in right now will cost more in social services than they will put into the SS coffers.

He literally makes me nauseous.

Arlen Sphincter is nauseous, you are nauseated by him.

Please re-read your Strunk & White.

Cheers!

Why, thank you, indeed.
Perhaps I should go back, delete and re-post the comment to your satisfaction?

Actually, I have no way of knowing if "Arlen Sphincter is nauseous," as his physical condition is of no interest to me. I DO know that he disgusts me beyond reason, and if it were not illegal and un-Christian, I'd wish him all sorts of harm.

Actually, I have no way of knowing if "Arlen Sphincter is nauseous," as his physical condition is of no interest to me.

Strunk & White wrote a classic text on effective writing called The Elements of Style. It had this quote back in the dark ages when I read it: Nauseous, Nauseated. The first means "sickening to contemplate"; the second means "sick to the stomach". Do not therefore say "I feel nauseous," unless you are sure you have that effect on others.

However, from Miriam-Webster online:

usage Those who insist that nauseous can properly be used only in sense 1 and that in sense 2 it is an error for nauseated are mistaken. Current evidence shows these facts: nauseous is most frequently used to mean physically affected with nausea, usually after a linking verb such as feel or become; figurative use is quite a bit less frequent. Use of nauseous in sense 1 is much more often figurative than literal, and this use appears to be losing ground to nauseating. Nauseated is used more widely than nauseous in sense 2.

So I graciously admit being hoist on my own petard!

I DO know that he disgusts me beyond reason, and if it were not illegal and un-Christian, I'd wish him all sorts of harm.

Then pray for him, and work to have the RINO replaced with a conservative (sometimes I think I never will understand Dubya and his support of illegal immigration and RINOs...unless he is just comfortable with the country-club wing of the GOP. After all, someone has to do the yard work.)

Cheers!

I think we should pay attention to the riots in Europe and avoid bringing in a lot of people in good times that will be unemployed later. If we think we need people, we should birth and raise them ourselves. I favor guestworker plans that repatriate workers.

If we were able to deport the majority of illegal immigrants, and effectively decrease illegal immigration, there would unquestionably be a labor shortage.

I'm not sure we need to double the number of legal immigrants, but I do think the number does need to increase.

However, we first need to address illegal immigration.

I don't like Spector, but this article seems very biased to me. It concentrates on the part of the plan to increase illegal immigration but doesn't give details about the plan.

However, it should be obvious that if we do address illegal immigration, that we will need to increase legal immigration. Our unemployment rates are low. We have a HUGE illegal immigrant population. If we are successful at dramaticly reducing illegal immigration, and we are successful at removing a large percentage of the illegal immigrants from the country, we obviously don't have enough workers.

I'm very concerned about a plan that only plays lip service too addressing illegal immigration, while increasing legal immigration. We need strong and effective immigration enforcement.

However, our country's economic prosperity does rely on having a sufficient pool of workers. A little tightening of the labor market can be nice for workers, but if it's too tight, the result is inflation and decreased competitiveness without other countries. That helps neither employers or employees.

"Illegal immigrants do not assimilate, nor do large groups of Mexicans, whereas groups from Europe do mix into the culture."

Yep, kinda like the way the Muslims in France are assimilating?

Stupid Arlen.

What is it in the Washington water that turns so many of these politicians into stupid fools? Is it tainted with cold cash and hot ego?

It's not just illegal aliens we desperately need to deport. It's these alien politicians!

All of the politicians are crying about how much it will cost to locate and deport the illegal aliens in this country, Bovine Scarptology!!

Teddy and his buddies wanted to GIVE these ILLEGAL ALIENS $2,500 each!! I say put a bounty of their asses for $1,000.00 and heavy fines on their employers. Get rid of Teddy and his friends in the Congress, strip them of their citizenship and deport them to France or Mexico!

Spectre is so bad that nothing I could say about this is acceptable language for FR.

I'm really coming to the conclusion that 98% of all politicians are nothing more than enemies of the people. Doing it on purpose.

Firstly, it needs to be said NumbersUSA is anti-immigrant, albeit they like to hide behind a couple of technicalities.

NumbersUSA is primarily anti-ILLEGAL-immigrant, those known to the rational as criminal aliens. They're not immigrants, migrants, expatriates, visitors, guest workers, undocumenteds, financial refugees or people necessary to perform work we're supposedly too lazy to do.

They crashed the border without permission - misdemeanor criminals until returning after deportation, which makes that subset felons. Christmas-time will find thousands of them getting purposely deported for the sole purpose of getting a free ride back to their home countries on our dime with every intention of sneaking back in after December. That lack of concern for a felony rap illustrates their overall respect for the laws they see us selectively enforcing.

NumbersUSA has been associated with Zero Population Growth entities in the past but I don't know what their current status on that front is. If you feel the need to attack one of the few groups actually working for your better interests that would be the place to start.

This is what we get for focusing on the illegal aspect of immigration instead of the volume of immigration. It is the volume of immigration that is the problem. The impact of immigration on our economy and the culture is not based on whether or not these folks have a piece of paper that says their presence was approved by the feds.
