AL Franken found out the hard way not to mess with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, who chided Franken as if he were a delinquent schoolboy at Time Warner Center on Monday night
When Pearlstine opened the floor for Q&A, Franken stood up in the back row and started talking about "judicial demeanor" and asking "hypothetically" about whether a judge should recuse himself if he had gone duck-hunting or flown in a private jet with a party in a case before his court.
Franken was clumsily referring to the fact that Scalia had gone hunting and flying with Dick Cheney before the 2000 election.
First, Scalia lectured Franken, "Demeanor is the wrong word. You mean ethics." Then he explained, "Ethics is governed by tradition. It has never been the case where you recuse because of friendship."
Time Warner chairman Dick Parsons later told PAGE SIX: "Al was not quite ready for prime time." Franken was a "Not Ready for Prime Time Player" on "Saturday Night Live" long before he began hosting a radio show on Air America.

Well I have to give him his due. At least Al proved one thing. He may not be ready for prime time but he certainly exceeds the standards esatblished to be a DemocRAT US Senator. I assume he did not stagger, drool, forget his own name, lose important billing records or plagerize the question in his back bench "demeanor".
Al Franken believing that he is capable of debating Justice Scalia?
Think about it.
The foundation for the intensity of liberalism is conceit. These people THINK they're smarter than others. Their rhetorical reactive armor protects them from reason and learning. They should try studying "ethics" for a change instead of party rhetoric.
Laura Ingraham talked about this this a.m. on her program; it was a riot to listen to hearing about how stoooopid Franken is...as if he has the smarts or ability to take on Scalia.
One can imagine Franken afterwards, smoking a bone with his Air America buddies, telling them, "Boy, I really told him off!!!" |
Now all he's got to do is promise not to flee DC with his tail between his legs when DHS raises the terror alert level, and the poeple of Minnesota will make him their senator.
He came to the battlefield unarmed.
OH PLEEASSSEEEEEEEE!!!!!! That must be Frankenese spin for I got Byetch Slapped hard and want to cry to mommy... Franken is even more deranged then I thought.
Franken came to a battle of the wits unarmed.
thanks!
I knew there was a market out there for it.... :)
I wonder if the Scalia-Franken exchange was captured on film...I'd love to see it.
pwned!
LOL...........
Not even close! I just love this. I heard it being talked about on the radio this morning and it's one of those times ya just wish ya coulda been there!
Speaking of that, there was some tv sitcom with Fanken on it with G. Gordon Liddy in a guest appearance. Franken was given a revolver as an award for something (all this was on the show and not real) and was goofing around with it and accidentally discharged it and shot Liddy in the arm (grazing wound). Liddy stomped over and snatched it out of Franken's hands calling him a stupid liberal moron who should NEVER have a gun.
That was the only episode I ever watched and that was because the G-man was on it.
Love to see Franken follow this up with a question to Rumsfeld then Cheney.
Unlike John Belushi, Dan Ackroyd, and Bill Murray, Al never BECAME ready for prime time. (Back when he had that comedy partner? I used to wonder if they were homosexual lovers.)
