U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia says the high court did not inject itself into the 2000 presidential election.
.......Scalia said: "The election was dragged into the courts by the Gore people. We did not go looking for trouble." .........the court had to take the case.
"The issue was whether Florida's Supreme Court or the United States Supreme Court [would decide the election.] What did you expect us to do? Turn the case down because it wasn't important enough?"
(Scalia) contended there would have been a difficult transition had the court not stepped in....... (and that) studies by news organizations.....showed Bush still would have won a Florida recount

<< The Gore people were hopelessly out-lawyered ... >>
And their position hopelessly fraudulent.
Hopelessly.
Fraudulent.
Hopelessly fraudulent.
Even for second generation lying looting treasonous racketeer, dangerous dullard and willing member of the Blly-Bubba-Blythe Crime Family: Underdon Al-Fredo Gore-leone.
ROTFLMAO!!!
Yep. That must be what he used to invent the "net"!
I have this habit of scrolling past pics of people who give me nightmares, or are just gross, so I didn't catch it the first time.
Then the one in #20 made me jump!
WOW! You hit every nail on the head. Well done!
And the Florida Supreme Court would have stopped the re-count as soon as Gore pulled ahead.
That's the recipe the 'Rats used in WA to steal the gubernatorial election win from Rossi (R). The 'Rat-run King Co. Elections Department kept miraculously finding new ballots by the thousands--until they found enough to put Fraudoire (D) over the top--by 45 votes.
At my polling place on election day this year I asked the poll workers if votes counted this year. You could tell at a glance which were 'Rats and which were 'Icans.
I kept yelling at tv... why are not the Republicans doing a thing to answer the bell.
Once I steped back on U.S. soil in late November - I found out that CNN was skewing the reporting... I/we all know why.
Al Gore/David Boise (spelling?)/yard gnome William Christopher... don't go away mad... just go away.
Doesn't matter. People who want to believe that Bush stole Florida will deny any and all evidence to the contrary.
Yeah, but the Gore people were so arrogant, so sure of themselves, and the voter fraud scam they were pulling, CNN went right along 'em.
Those 30 some days and watching the Gore folks about to steal the Presidency are SEARED into all our memories. The only laugh I got during this time was when the judge told Larry Klayman to sit down. lol
Remind me: O'Connor voted to end the recount, right?
The FLA recount was halted and without a recount, the certification of Bush as the narrow winner of Florida's 25 electoral votes -- and thus the presidency -- stood.
The justices said the Florida Supreme Court allowed uneven treatment of hand-counted votes, adding that a proper recount could not be conducted without "substantial additional work." (Gore had made the huge mistake of asking for a recount in selected districts only----where he knew he could win, which made the recount legally suspect.)
Ruling in the majority were Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist and Justices Sandra Day O'Connor, Antonin Scalia, Anthony M. Kennedy and Clarence Thomas. Dissenting were Justices John Paul Stevens, David H. Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Breyer.
Bush officially won the FLA count by couple hundred votes although many believe voter fraud was huge, and that Bush won substantially more votes.
Without a recount? There were plenty of recounts. Gore lost them all.
..........the USSC stopped the recount----which was then in progress........
Gore was gonna count, recount and re-recount specific districts, til they had the votes they needed to win in those specific districts......it's an old Dim trick.
The Daley Family Vote Mfg Co was waiting for the votes to show up in used Chicago deep-dish pizza boxes.
The big lie will remain forever though. Bush was proclaimed president by the Supreme Court. Too many people refuse to see reality and will belive that nonsense forever.
"Yep, no matter how you counted the vote, Gore lost. The only way that he could have won was if you started stealing votes from third-party candidates and giving them to him."
But...but...think of all the little old ladies in Palm Beach who voted Buchanan and surely can't have meant to! /sarc
I thought Gore's lawyers were every bit as expensive as Bush's. What sealed it for Bush, despite CBS's best efforts were the facts and the law, both firmly in Bush's corner.
As for Gore getting out-lawyered, my favorite comment about that came from Brit Hume explaining an ancient legal bromide. When the law is on your side, pound the law. When the facts are on your side, pound the facts. When neither the law nor the facts are on your side, pound the table.
I read that book and another (I forget the author). Both books made me as angry as I was in Nov '00. I recommend Sammon's book for certain, anyone who hadn't read it.
Scalia raps to Al Gore - unofficial transcript
Gore say he won, we knew it was a lie
But Puffy was tellin us to 'vote or die'
So we gotta count da vote, know what I'm sayin
cause the bushes and cheneys, just ain't fair playin
But Al was posin, and posturin and stallin
and Carville was in the back room ballin
aint no hope with a trashcan on his head
he should have just stayed at home in bed
turns out Al lost the vote, though he thought he had a chance,
and Alec Baldwin still ain't yet livin in France
...
And don't forget that it was an AP writer who originally goaded Gore into challenging the vote count in FLA. Such was, and is the hatred of the MSM media for Bush.
"Doesn't matter. People who want to believe that Bush stole Florida will deny any and all evidence to the contrary."
This actually scares the hell out of me. Its so bad that it may lead to America's 2nd Civil War, a battle over life styles , not for secession, neighbor against neighbor?
When Republicans win again will these people of alternate reality take up the gun? I believe there are some who would now.
Really, at the end of the day it all comes down to this. Gore lost a close election, but unlike others who had lost close elections in the past, Gore refused to accept the results and exploited known flaws in our election system to try and overturn the result. Nixon could have done what Gore did, but chose not to for the good of the country. Gore simply refused to do so based upon his belief that he was entitled to power. In doing so, Gore announced the new democrat strategy for every election, namely, to never accept any result that didn't elect a democrat.
