Remind me: O'Connor voted to end the recount, right?

The FLA recount was halted and without a recount, the certification of Bush as the narrow winner of Florida's 25 electoral votes -- and thus the presidency -- stood.

The justices said the Florida Supreme Court allowed uneven treatment of hand-counted votes, adding that a proper recount could not be conducted without "substantial additional work." (Gore had made the huge mistake of asking for a recount in selected districts only----where he knew he could win, which made the recount legally suspect.)

Ruling in the majority were Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist and Justices Sandra Day O'Connor, Antonin Scalia, Anthony M. Kennedy and Clarence Thomas. Dissenting were Justices John Paul Stevens, David H. Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Breyer.

Bush officially won the FLA count by couple hundred votes although many believe voter fraud was huge, and that Bush won substantially more votes.
