Zarqawi may have been killed in Mosul (White House: "highly unlikely")

At least one Arab television media outlet reported that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the head of the al-Qaida in Iraq, was killed in Iraq on Sunday afternoon when eight terrorists blew themselves up in the in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

The unconfirmed report claimed that the explosions occurred after coalition forces surrounded the house in which al-Zarqawi was hiding.

WASHINGTON, Nov 20 (Reuters) - U.S. authorities are looking into whether al Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in a gunfight in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, a U.S. official said on Sunday, but a White House spokesman said that was "highly unlikely."

I would be surprised if he actually blew himself up. That just doesn't fit. First, if he was cornered and was going to blow himself up, he would have waited for our troops to get close so he could have taken some with him. Second, the leaders typically are cowards when it comes to suicide/homicide bombings. The leadership are not as anxious to meet allah as they claim. My bet is that if this story is true, he and his buddies were in a building that we blew to smithereens before we knew he was in there.

The story is probably being slanted to at least make him look like a hero.

We should present the opposite: That he was quivering and bawling like a baby just before the strike.
