Ahhhhhhhh yes...the softer side of Sears. Upon my trip to the retail "giant" I walk by and notice the price of the Christmas Trees they were pushing...but oh...what is this? They are not called Christmas Trees...nope.

They are not called Holiday Trees...nope.

They are not called Festive Trees...nope.

They are called......................

I mention the word courage, because these folks "seem" to be scared to death to mention the word. This has all come about over the last year or two. I have no idea what's driving it unless there has been a concerted effort by some group that I am unaware of.

LOL...

Ya know, all this anti-Christmas crap from the retailers makes me want to simply reduce the commercialistic element of Christmas to the ultimate.

"First I have heard of Coke doing that...I am absolutely floored."

Bill O'Reilly was talking about this. He has that book about the War on Christmas. Apparently Coke has used Santa for 74 years, in recent years adding the Polar Bears. This year the are dropping Santa and replacing him with Penguins (admittedly cute penguins).

O'Reilly had a staffer call and ask Coke why there were no Santa Christmas cans this year and the staffer was told it wasn/t true. But when O'Reilly had the staffer call back and just pretend to be an upset customer they were told that Coke would bring Santa back one more time next year for his 75th anniversary.

It's like the Christmas trees - Christmas isn't about Santa or trees or store employees being told what to say - it's about God's love for man his desire that we love each other... but it still is irritating when our religion become politically incorrect.

I wish all the stores who want my Christmas money would put a sign on their building entrance saying "Christmas Celebrated Here!" Then I could just drive by the rest and not waste my time.

I was just thinking; if it's gonna be called a wishing tree, then we need to change some song lyrics.

We Wish you a Merry Wishmas

Oh Wishmas Tree, Oh Wishmas Tree

I'm Dreaming of a White Wishmas

Very good!
I can hear some Bing Crosby wannabe, like the Ghost of Christmas Never
crooning~

"I'm Dreeeeaming of a Quiiiiiiite(large) Wish-list"

Well, darn. If it's not Christmas in this store, I guess I'm not Christmas shopping.

Early in our marriage, I bought our first & only Nativity scene..... at Sears....(not a lot of money to spend)

It's not fancy, smancy....just basic thatch roof lean-to with Josepeh, Mary, baby Jesus, the Wise men, a shepherd, two cows, sheep.-that's it.

..we still use it, although it's seen better days, but the kids love it, sentimentally.

No matter how I arrange the scene, they always, always rearrange a cow, or the shepherd, or something, LOL.
It's tradition in our home....rearrange the Nativity scene.

Sad how Sear's has declined.....they use to be known for old fashioned values.

"I have no idea what's driving it unless there has been a concerted effort by some group that I am unaware of."

That concerted effort you mentioned is being foisted on us by the aclu.

Check out this group that is working all year round to counter the effort to wipe out Christmas.

Christmas Project™
Merry Christmas. It's okay to say it

Christmas is a cherished time of year when Americans come together and celebrate something bigger than ourselves, something that has united us for generations. An event that is the center of all history—the birth of Jesus Christ.

Surveys show that 96% of Americans celebrate Christmas. Yet, due to political correctness, disinformation, and even the threat of lawsuits from the ACLU and its allies, religious expression at Christmastime is increasingly absent from the public square. Slowly, this holy day is being turned into a secular “solstice season.”

The Alliance Defense Fund works year-round to preserve and protect our religious liberties, including the right to…

...sing Christmas carols at school
...pass out candy canes to classmates
...call it “Christmas vacation”
...sponsor a nativity scene on public property
...say “Merry Christmas”

ADF wants all Americans to know the Truth—that they have the freedom to celebrate Christmas publicly, joyfully, and without fear—for generations to come! We are launching our annual national Christmas Project™ to spread the message, “Merry Christmas. It’s okay to say it.” Will you join with us?

Well, Merry Christmas to you and yours!

And a Merry Christmas to you too!

We usually do the tree farm but always get a permit from the forestry dept. to go up in the "hills" near Mt Rainier to cut down a tree. It's usually more trouble than it's worth hiking miles into the back country in four feet of snow dragging the kids, then realizing you left the saw in the truck when you find the perfect tree.

I haven't heard anything from the tree huggers here in Washington about cutting down trees. They do find a way to ruin everything it seems. Then again it's hard to not trip over douglas firs and nobles around my house.

I would much rather have donation to animal rescue place or something like that.

I can't stand getting something like, "in lieu of a gift we have donated $$ in your honor to..". Let people support their own causes and not tell me it is a "gift" for me. But on to your other point, tell your relatives you don't want to exchange meaningless gifts. I agree with you that after a certain age it gets REALLY hard to come up with something ever year. We still exchange with our parents but not with our siblings. We do buy for their kids who are little right now. Speak up. You might be surprised and find out they want off the hook also. If not, at least you will know you tried.

What a sweet tradition, and a beautiful story.
Sears used to epitomize quality.

Our mom designed Nativity scenes for each of our families...out of spools of thread. She put so much love into them.

Sears doesn't realize they're stripping the genuine love right out of Christmas. They might as well call it Christless.
