MAN ON DOG? (Lawmakers move to lower penalty for bestiality … seriously)

One might ask the question: Has the sexual abuse of children increased or decreased as the "sexual revolution" moves inexorably along? Over the past 30-40 years homosexualilty has gone from being classified as a mental disorder and a criminal practice to a "normal" (sometimes "preferred") life style and a legally protected class. Pornography, once detested and classed as a criminal activity, is now protected by the First Amendment and is slowly making its way into prime time TV (it is already all over the cable channels). At the same time religion, morality and what used to be called "common decency" are derided, condemned and in certain locales prosecuted (quote the bible on homosexuality in Canada or Sweden and you can go to jail).

All this "sexual liberation" is supposed to usher in a new age of sanity isn't it? Wasn't the complaint about "Puritanism" and prudery and Victorian morality all about the repression of the normal, healthy and liberating expression of sexuality? Wasn't the basis of human aberration the suppression of sexual urges and wasn't the freedom to engage in sex in all its varied forms supposed to liberate mankind from the chains of a suffocating morality?

I submit that never has sex in all its forms been so freely "expressed" or more openly exhibited than it is today in the western nations. And never have so many people been more lost, alienated, unhappy and just plain loony than they are right now.

None of this is by any means universal. There are large segments of the culture that still practice modesty, self-restraint and hold to those belief systems and values that over the millenia have proven successful in the development of both human culture and human character. But an awful lot of people are making themselves miserable in the exercise of their "liberation" and they are slowly but surely poisoning the society around them by their attempts to spread their bitterness, nihilism and degraded matierialism to the rest of us.

I notice that the promotion of immorality is now endemic in advertising, entertainment and the arts. It is now worming its way into the schools and its promoters are trying mightily to establish it in law by criminalizing those who oppose it. What I see happening is that laws restricting sexual behavior are fast disappearing and into the vacumn created by their deletion pop up laws enabling sexual behavior once considered criminal. It is not hard to see where this is all leading.

The point is that there is no neutral ground in this. We are going to get a culture that espouses self-restraint, responsible behavior and moral order or we are going to get one that espouses unlimited "self-expression", license and moral chaos. If current trends hold (and really there is no reason to suppose they will not) homosexual "marriage", polygamy and polyandry, bestiality and just about any and every deviation one can think of has a good chance of becoming "legal". The movement in this direction has been amazingly swift and appears to be gathering momentum. Those who are trying to stem the tide win largely illusory victories that are quickly overturned in the courts or simply ignored by the ruling elites who favor and promote the trend toward an "anything goes" society.

I could go on and on about how the current trend undermines the nation and western civilization. The expressions of disgust with the west by some of its own citizens, the subversion of efforts to defend the west and the overt or covert support of its enemies all stem from the moral rot that is becoming more and more pervasive. This is an old story doomed apparently to be repeated. I have no idea if the trend can be reversed. I know of no time in the past when such a reversal has occurred.

Hysterical author?

Let me guess, you were one of the ones who said that this sort of thing wouldn't happen to begin with.

The so called "diddling" of animals should be taken VERY seriously. Cross species disease is a very serious issue and would be the vehicle for disease we may not be able to impede.

There is a reason for common sense morality.

The subject of this article has been going on for centuries, most among farm kids. It's gross, like picking your boogers and eating them, but not something that we need a law against, nor something that will bring down civilization.

I didn't say it but I thought it - and I've seen nothing to change my mind. MA pruned some deadwood out of their legal code, and the world is continuing on unchanged: no legal bestiality, no slippery slope, no decrease in morality, etc.

'Hysterical' seems like a good word to me - this guy has worked himself into a frenzy over nothing and is spinning like a top to support an unsupported argument.

Note: No animals were harmed in the production of this post.

Well, swap out 'dog' with 'child' or 'sister' and ask the same question.

That's exactly the point. Dogs aren't children (even your sister isn't a dog). Having sex with a dog is strange and should be illegal, but 20 years in prison seems a bit excessive. 20 years for raping a child is not excessive.

I agree. And a year in prison is a very big deal. For one thing, prison isn't exactly a pleasant place to be. For another, finding a job afterwards is nigh impossible. But 20 years in prison seems a bit ridiculous. I doubt very seriously that you have a whole lot of wanna-be dog rapists out there who aren't deterred by a year in prison who would be by more.

Cold medicine, it appears, is also a greater threat to society than bestiality, as Falmouth Rep. Matthew Patrick denounced NyQuil and codeine, but remained silent about barnyard romance. Patrick’s bill would criminalize the sale of “cough syrup or a cold remedy containing alcohol or codeine … to any person under the age of 18.” Such medicine “wreaks a lot of havoc on young people,” Patrick argued.

Ummm, isn't codeine already a class III controlled narcotic? Will this criminalize a Dr. writing a perscription for cold medicine or a dentist writing one for Tylenol III if the patient is under 18?

What about the parent of a child who gets a Rx for something with codeine? Will they be prosecuted when they pick up the Rx at the pharmacy? And maybe even charged as an accessory?

On top of everything else it's cruelty to animals.

Too bad. It sure looks like Libertarians are getting their way these days.

Would everyone be making excuses if it were a child or incestuous relations?

So if you are under 18 and get a cold your suppose to just what grin and bare it and hope it doesnt turn into anything more serious while its being left untreated?

Like they did with gay marriage?

Like states do - or should do - all the time.

This action was not in response to any gay marriage legislation. Nobody argued that bestiality should be legal. MA did not decriminalize animal abuse (they didn't throw a bone to the bestiality lobby). All they did was clean up an outdated law which is probably covered adaquately elsewhere in the code.

I know that folks who disapprove of gay marriage and the demise of anti-sodomy laws want to see this as some sort of slippery slope, but it just isn't there. This author wants to pretend that legalizing gay marriage started a trend toward bestiality and incest, but there's nothing to support that position...
