The so called "diddling" of animals should be taken VERY seriously. Cross species disease is a very serious issue and would be the vehicle for disease we may not be able to impede.

I agree. And a year in prison is a very big deal. For one thing, prison isn't exactly a pleasant place to be. For another, finding a job afterwards is nigh impossible. But 20 years in prison seems a bit ridiculous. I doubt very seriously that you have a whole lot of wanna-be dog rapists out there who aren't deterred by a year in prison who would be by more.
