CNN's Carol Lin and the French "African-Americans"
The Paris riots have highlighted more than any other issue in recent years not only the bias, but the ignorance of the "old media." Internet readers have studied the situation in Europe for years. Numerous writers, from Mark Steyn to Ba'at Yeor to Debbie Schlussel, have long predicted the decline of Europe and the jihad that we have seen over the past few weeks.
But the "old media" personalities still have no clue as to what is going on. And their reporting and commentary has taken on an almost comical quality as a result.
Years after "new media" readers began to understand the consequences of French policies toward Islamic immigrants, CNN's anchor Carol Lin referred (on November 6th) to some of the participants in the Paris fiasco as African-American (apparently for lack of a better euphemism). Video available: Real Player or Windows Media
When the MSM seeks to use euphemisms to ignore the real issue, they run the risk of sounding stupid and bringing ridicule upon themselves. It would be far easier to identify correctly the rioters in the first place. It makes one wonder why they don't do things the easy way.
UPDATE 4pm EST Friday, by Rich Noyes: Lins comment came about 10 minutes into CNNs 10pm EST Sunday Night, as reporter Chris Burns was reporting on the rioting in France. Burns reported: The priority right now is to restore order before trying to deal with some of the underlying issues, but even after what [French President Jacque] Chirac said, were seeing more violence. What you could point out, though, is that there is at this point about half as many vehicles torched as the night before, so you might call that progress, Carol.
Hard to say, Lin responded, because its been 11 days since two African-American teenagers were killed, electrocuted during a police chase, which prompted all of this.
The two teenaged boys, who ran into high-voltage equipment and were killed on October 27, weren't American at all. They were actually French citizens of Tunisian origin.
Sorry, not so. South African Jew, as white as could be. There is a big community of them in the Atlanta area. They saw the writing on the wall 3 decades ago, and started getting out.
Let's not forget that this newsreader used the words "...during a police chase". This is a typical tactic of the media. It is technically true. By omitting a significant fact (the rotters went into the transformer station themselves) the media hope that many readers will conclude what they don't say (that the cops are responsible for the electrocution!)
UNBELIEVABLE! and hilarious...
Many are....
She always looks like she just realized she'll never make it to the bathroom.
Robert Spencer of JihadWatch says the French rioters are just about all Muslim. Did you see black rioters on TV? Of course some French blacks are Muslim
The BBC on NPR won't even use the word 'Muslims". I guess it's verboten. Instead, I heard them say something like 'ethnic immigrant minority' and something else equally as vague. It's just ridiculous that they won't even identify who they're talking about.
It's called willfully misinforming
You nailed it. LOL.
I don't mean any disrespect but you're not Paris Hilton's pet dog, are you?
I'd like to email them and tell them it's easy to say the word 'Muslim'. Just pretend you're learning how to speak for the first time and 'Mama' is your first word. "Muh Muh Muslim". There! That wasn't so hard, was it? < :D
I hope you're kidding. But then again, sometimes editors use "change and replace" so as not to use "objectionable" words (such as "black").
i'm more a bulldog, i just need a gun to take care of that by myself. No guns in France, only scums have it. And Chirac is the bigger of them. That's the big problem you see ?
I think I'm sorry I asked. (;>) Welcome to Free Republic.
"South African Jew, as white as could be. There is a big community of them in the Atlanta area."
Yes, I don't know what started it off, either. I just know it's there, enough so I've come to notice it. I've met several such folks, through the Jewish across-the-street neighbors at our first house (we were the token gentiles at Yom Kippur breakfast for several years), and through business contacts.
Atlanta does have a pretty big Jewish community, probably bigger than anywhere in the South except for South Florida, which isn't really the South. And in the 70s, when I think the whole thing got started, the South was certainly the place to be, for an up-and-coming area, economically, and Atlanta foremost in the South. So perhaps those factors explain it.
How about news reports that say "the perpetrator is African-American" when in fact, the perpetrator is really from the West Indies.
How about when these dopes describe physiological aspects as "African-American" instead of "black". The "African-American" hair found in a cap found during the OJ Simpson investigation. I didn't know you can tell what country someone comes from by looking at a hair.
Not only that, these overly PC persons don't know that to blacks who are not American, they are, for the most part, insulted when they're called "African-American".
They'll tell you "I'm not American, I'm Dominican, Jamaican", whatever. Some will even tack on "I'm not African, either" if they have no ties (except for ancestory) to Africa.
Thank goodness! Then my hearing isn't going.
I'm a Chinese, I really feel offended when they refer to the muslims as "asians", especially the British media.
We asians, including Chinese, Koreans , vietnamese and Japanese, are not muslims!!!!!
