Congresswoman: Three Al Qaeda Caught in U.S. After Crossing Border with Mexico
Wednesday, November 9, 2005 | Kristinn

Posted on 11/09/2005 4:49:04 PM PST by kristinn

Rep. Sue Myrick (R-N.C.) let slip a bombshell disclosure at a news conference today to announce a bill targeting states that allow illegal aliens to get drivers licenses.

During the Q&A with reporters, Myrick gave as a reason for proposing the bill the recent capture of three al Qaeda terrorists at the U.S.-Mexico border.

A check of Google News turned up no references to this incident, yet Myrick stated this was a 'given fact.'

No reporter asked her about this revelation, but it was noted at the end of a Charlotte Observer article by Tim Funk.

Two Representatives from North Carolina, Virginia Foxx (R) and Patrick McHenry (R) stood with Myrick at the press conference. Neither commented on her matter of fact statement.

Rep. Myrick's remarks can be heard online at her Congressional Website here. the statement is made at about 8:45 into the press conference.

A call placed to Myrick's office in D.C. was not answered as the office is closed for the evening.

Transcript:

"Our main concern is, who's in our state? I mean this is a critical issue today. I mean they just arrested down on the border, what a couple of weeks ago, three al Qaeda members who came across from Mexico into the United States. I mean that's a given fact. They were holding them in the jail down there."

So, you think the ONLY way AQ will get into America is via aircraft

That isn't anywhere NEAR what I said, but I DO think that is the easiest way for them to do it.....re-read ALL of my posts....

"It was a wreck when he came to Office, and I think he will set it in better order by 2008 than when he arrived in 2000."

Illegal border crossings are up 25% since GWB took office....no doubt due to his murmurings about a "guest worker program" (Shamnesty).

How is that the easiest way when measures have been taken to make it difficult? Airport screening from departure cities, names on lists fed to the U.S. while in the air.....etc.

That's easier than slipping through a wide open, unpatrolled, door and, once in, making materials locally?

I think not.

"Therefore, we should only seal the northern border."

Umm..no offense, but thats not what I said and you and I have been here long enough and seen each other on these boards enough to know that not what I say or have said in the past.

"Actually I am a mexican and my green card expired 20 years ago. I make $2 million US per year tax free and send it home to pay for family and friends to buy new hiking shoes....
Oh and I also get food stamps and medicaid. for life.
So by your thoughts, Osama Bin Laden attacked America and killed thousands of people....because the US - Mexico border is - what - unpatrolled?
You people have lost sight."

Time to up your dosage of meds amigo.

Canada is much better. The only reason the Millenium bomber was caught was ONE alert border agent. She noticed the car was sagging (from the dynamite). They don't normally do the major searches on the Canadian border that they do on the Mexican border.

I believe Vinny Phocks has to have a super 8 video of GWB doing a line of coke off the belly of a Tijuana stripper back in the late 70's that he's holding over GWB's head...

JMO, sometimes you conspiracy kooks on FR make the DUmmie diebold kooks look sane.

It doesn't take a big time terrorist to get on a plane. It does take someone outside your normal run of the mill car bomber to make it through a desert. Yes it is still relatively easy to get to the US with a VISA and a plane ticket.

And yes the other way is a problem and shouldn't be minimized, but why, in this day of same day international air travel, would you, if you were a terrorist, wait and hope that your guy can traverse the desert when you can just get on a plane and fly?

Then why focus on the northern border? If thousands of illegals are streaming through the unwatched, unpatrolled, southern border.....how does anybody know WHO is coming through that border?

Do you honestly think that the govt. is going to make an announcement that AQ has already come through the southern border when the Bush Administration, and hundreds of elected officials, have an agenda to keep the southern border open?

Obsessed?
Reading is Fun-duh-mental.

Try re-reading the title of this thread bout 40 or 50 times...hopefully it will sink in to your "open border-brain"

Your are correct about the TSA, they are borderline competent at best.

As a smoker I have encountered numerous people at SEA, LAX, SFO, DEN, BUF, O'Hare, Dulles etc. That have practically bragged about getting through security with their Bic lighters in their pants pocket, as they handed it to me so I could light up.

I can't count the times I have sat in the smoking bar at Denver and watched someone reach in their pocket or purse and light their cigarette with a lighter. BTW the B concourse smoking bar is within the airport security area - they had to pass through security to get there.

I really love it (sarc) when elderly couples - who can barely walk - are singled out for closer inspection, while guys who look suspicious, at best, are completely ignored - makes me feel real safe. I see it almost every time I fly (34 trips so far this year).

Long Story short - we have real security problems at TSA and almost everywhere else. No politician wants to spend the money or do the hard work to fix the problems, the effort could derail their gravy train.

If the preferred way becomes too difficult, then a criminal takes the path of least resistance.

you're right about TSA, but I have a better one...

When I was flying home from Iraq for the last time in January 2005, my wife was flying down to meet me. She was bringing along her Leatherman tool, which I told her to carry because you never know when you will need something.

She didn't put it in her checked luggage, she put it in her purse and GOT AWAY with it.

"It simply amazes me on how everybody focuses on Mexico, when the bigger threat is north of the border in Canada."

It amazes a lot of us here on FR your stance on GWB's open border / Shamnesty policies.

Dangit Dane, I thought you were actually starting to create a rational thought with your #126 but then came the subsequent posts.

You really should learn to quit when you're ahead.
