State of Emergency Begins in France
Fox News ^

PARIS — Rioters defied a state of emergency that took effect Wednesday, as they looted and burned two superstores, set fire to a newspaper office and paralyzed France's second-largest city's subway system with a firebomb.

However, the number of car burnings — a barometer for the unrest — dropped sharply, suggesting the movement lost steam. Overnight Tuesday to Wednesday, youths torched 617 vehicles, down from 1,173 the previous night, national police spokesman Patrick Hamon said. Incidents were reported in 116 towns, down from 226 the night before.

President Jacques Chirac announced extraordinary security measures, which began Wednesday and are valid for a 12-day state of emergency, clearing the way for curfews after nearly two weeks of rioting that began in neglected and impoverished suburban neighborhoods with large Muslim communities.

The French capital and its suburbs, as well as more than 30 other cities, were covered by the state-of-emergency decree, according to a government bulletin published Wednesday. It empowers officials to put troublemakers under house arrest, ban or limit the movement of people and vehicles, confiscate weapons and close public spaces where gangs gather.

Towns included on the list stretched from Nice on the Mediterranean to Strasbourg on the German border and Le Havre on the English Channel, giving an indication of how widespread the unrest has become.

what interests me is that there have been so few casualties---the mujahadeen are holding back, waiting for orders and organizational support from Al Qaida...

Well yes, it does take time to smuggle in all those AK-47's from Iran. But the savages are achieving gains without killing anyone, which is good strategy--assuages the anxiety of the infidels and doesn't arouse lethal resistance from the authorities. Better to erode support for the government and demoralize the dominant populace with assaults on symbols of economic disparity such as automobiles.

No, the killing will come but at an opportune time.

My doctor is from India. My Dentist is from Vietnam. My pharmacist is from Pakistan.

and this is the type of immigration i like to see. the educated, the successful, the ones that will contribute to society, not bring it down. the ones who look at america and see opportunity to better themselves thru hard work and dedication, not the ones who come for welfare and handouts. its the ones looking for welfare and handouts that will bring this sort of rioting to our streets.

as i am now convinced, our govt will do nothing to avoid this problem happening here at some level. prudent minds would start planning for a future based on such happenings. They already have---it's called the Second Amendment.

Yeah, immigrants and their kids don't got what it takes:

Say that to the victims of the thousands of immigant felons Cuba dumped on the USA when Castro emptied his prisons -- into Florida.

Anecdotal evidence is always such a clincher.

Immigrants SHOULD make it here with all the government giveaways -- welfare, affirmative action positive discrimination, free education, scholarships, grants, etc.

Immigrants who DON'T make it also exist. Why don't they make it? Oh yeah, i forgot, it's OUR fault -- racism.

Eventually the doors have to close -- even for a while. That's just common sense. Glorifying immigrant hard word and contributions is just swell....but they are part of why we worship at the altar of racial/ethnic/religious "diversity" -- we have decided that our own roots, our own American-both aren't worth it anymore.

Last year Cesar Chavez's birthday replaced Good Friday at a bay area college for that Good Friday holiday.

Lunar new year/Chinese new year replaced Lincoln/Washington birthdays. Same bay area.

MY anecdotal offering.

My opinion here. Just my opinion.

Just in from Army Rangers:

President Bush May Send Up To 5 Marines For French Assistance

President Bush has authorized the Joint Chiefs to begin drawing up a
battle plan to pull France's ass out of the fire again. Facing an
apparent overwhelming force of up to 400 pissed off teenagers Mr. Bush
doubts France's ability to hold off the little pissants. "Hell, if the
last two world wars are any indication, I would expect France to
surrender any day now", said Bush. Joint Chiefs head, Gen. Peter Pace,
warned the President that it might be necessary to send up to 5 marines
to get things under control. The general admitted that 5 marines may be
overkill but he wanted to get this thing under control within 24 hours
of arriving on scene. He stated he was having a hard time finding even
one marine to help those ungrateful bastards out for a third time but
thought that he could persuade a few women marines to do the job before
they went on pregnancy leave.

President Bush asked Gen. Pace to get our marines out of there as soon
as possible after order was restored. He also reminded Gen. Pace to make
sure the marines did not take soap, razors, or deodorant with them. The
less they stand out the better.

Was that the moron I saw on this morning? Telling John Gibson and America that all is fine in France and that its superior to the US? Even as Paris burns?

I'm waiting for more French refugees, mate. We already have a good number - they're people who just came looking for work and couldn't find it in France. With the country crumbling, the influx is likely to increase.

Note to French arrivals: don't bring your politics with you.

Regards, Ivan

I saw that Paris Match thing as I was walking out the door. Nice of the guy to tell us that nothing is wrong and America is bad as Paris burns. He is a golden example of why you should hate the French and wish their whole civilization burn to the ground.

How do you say Quagmire in French?

/comic relief for a despicable and would-have-been-preventable situation.
