The Romans conquered the barbarians—and the barbarians conquered Rome.
So it goes with empires. And comes now the penultimate chapter in the history of the empires of the West.
This is the larger meaning of the ritual murder of Theo Van Gogh in Holland, the subway bombings in London, the train bombings in Madrid, the Paris riots spreading across France. The perpetrators of these crimes in the capitals of Europe are the children of immigrants who were once the colonial subjects of the European empires.
At this writing, the riots are entering their 12th night and have spread to Rouen, Lille, Marseille, Toulouse, Dijon, Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Cannes, Nice. Thousands of cars and buses have been torched and several nursery schools fire-bombed. One fleeing and terrified woman was doused with gasoline and set ablaze.
The rioters are of Arab and African descent, and Muslim. While almost all are French citizens, they are not part of the French people. For never have they been assimilated into French culture or society. And some wish to remain who and what they are. They live in France but are not French.
The rampage began October 27 when two Arab youths, fleeing what they mistakenly thought was a police pursuit, leapt onto power lines and were electrocuted. The two deaths ignited the riots.

Buchanan raises some excellent points in this article, but this comment is very curious. I would make the case that these immigrants have never been assimilated into French culture simply because there is no such thing as a French culture. The whole point of a modern socialist state is that the underlying "culture" is diminished in the face of a bland, secular nanny-state that saps its people of all ingenuity, creativity, etc. If France had any culture it would need a stupid "French language institute" to prevent the infiltration of English words into their language, nor would they have 10,000-15,000 elderly people dying of heat-related medical conditions a couple of summers ago while everyone in the country was on a month-long vacation.
or to put it in metric,
when you get a centimeter, you take a meter and then you want the whole kilometer.....

We are very fortunate to have Mexican and Latin American immigrants rather than Muslims.
But there is certainly some danger. Although most Latin Americans are Catholics, the political record of Latin American countries is dismal. Seemingly these people have been unable to maintain free and stable governments. From time to time they reform, but they seem to sink back into tyranny and abuse, as we are seeing in several countries down there right now.
Although American politics are widely corruption-ridden, seemingly we have been blessed by a kind of freedom and economic prosperity that is unique in our hemisphere despite these problems. If hispanics become the majority, their dominance will be greatly preferable to a Muslim majority, but it's not clear whether we will be able to preserve the kind of freedom we enjoy now.
It's been an element sadly lacking in our analysis of the problem and of the possible or likely outcomes.
That doesn't matter.
Even if we were third world,
we would be third world

strike groups sailing the high seas.
That means we still rule.
Yep ...but I am not a she
FWIW, I don't think Buchanan is a racist. I'm not a big fan of his views on a lot of issues (especiallly concerning Israel), but I think that's been a cheap shot people have hit him with.
If France had any culture it wouldn't need a stupid "French language institute" to prevent the infiltration of English words into their language . . .
No sh-t. This has always been taught in Mexican schools.
OK Pat, now show me where second and third generation Mexican Americans are not speaking English or not intermarrying?
Deport illegals YESTERDAY. On this Pat and I can agree. Otherwise, he is exagerrating things. Much like people who believe that every person with an "-ez" at the end of their name is a MeCHA supporter.
I think there is a French culture. After all, somebody had to invent surrendering.
America's day is coming and coming soon - very very soon.
....Agreed. There may be a threat to a cohesive American culture, but at least it's not a threat to our very liberty....
Maybe you should do a little more research before making such a bold statement...

you might also want to read up on the Mexican plans for "Reconquista"
They let them in the door and gave them the run of the joint.
A couple of large calibre hollow-points should be sufficient to dispatch the camel.
I think he's referring to some poll from a while back. I think the poll may have been of dubious origin, though.
I guess so. I'll admit that I have a touch of Schadenfreude when I hear Abu Pukeanan write about this. He can never get off of that idiotic "empire" schtick, and the real wonderment on France is not that it fell, but how did it last so long?
For the time being. America was third world at the time of the Revolution and emerged only by conscious effort, and creating nationwide capital as a result. It took a century. Capital is the engine of the economy, yet few know the true base of capital. It is right in front of everyone's eyes, yet is so mundane we can't be bothered to see it.
