I'm getting a little tired (okay, I actually got tired a long time ago) of people making such a huge deal over the US death toll reaching the 2,000 mark. All around, we're hearing, "It's not worth the cost! It's not worth the cost!"
Well, frankly, I think freedom IS worth the cost. And I think it demeans the sacrifices of our troops to suggest otherwise.
To that end, I think it would be neat to start a campaign showing some of the benefits to the war in Iraq. I'm including a "starter" image to get things rolling...
So is hell.

Besides, we attacked per the violation of the Resolutions of the UN, not because we had proof of any link.
The MSM wants to harp over the WMD issue and any 'link', because they cannot default the true means by which we declared war.
If we hadn't taken out the Saddam Hussein regime when we did, right now he would still be growing in stature and popularity amongst the terror-supporting Arab countries.
Hussein would still be supporting the creation of clandestine WMD weapons and/or terror networks and distributing them to various al-Qaeda cells around the world.
I strongly believe that we lanced the unspoken state-sponsored terror network boil at exactly the right time, and by doing so we showed every single Arab-Muslim country what they could expect if they too were to get too crazy.
The only country who continues to defy, I believe, is Iran and they too will face the wrath of the US and/or Israel if they get a nuke with the capacity to use it. (North Korea might have nukes, but for some reason I dont think they are inclined to give those weapons to Muslim terrorists)

With the all the mention recently of families mourning the 2,000th loss of loved ones in Iraq, I also think of the families still mourning from 9/11. I also think of the families mourning from the USS Cole as well as others mourning the Khobar Towers bombing.
There are literally thousands of families, American, European, Arab, and Asian, who mourn the loss of loved ones at the hands of terrorists. These terrorists have to be stopped. This war on terror should have been started 30 years ago, before they gained the support and power they have today. Appease them now and imagine the power they will have 10 or 20 years from now.
At the same time as I shed my tears over these 2,000, I also beam with pride that this latest generation has produced such fine young men and women who willingly placed themselves in harm's way for the protection and liberation of others and have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Their sacrifices are not to be taken lightly, denigrated or sensationalized but deserve to be held up to the entire world as among the finest people this country has ever produced.
As in John 15:13, "Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

It isn't that simple. We were born to freedom and the power of self-determination in this magnificent country. The ordinariness of it all spoils our perspective and leaves us dull to the understanding just how rare a gift we have.
But 2,000 of our very best have died to break the chains that bind the Iraqis. It is a noble gesture. May God grant that the Iraqis see it as such and seize the opportunity.

I highly doubt I have any "pull here". I'm just another FReeper who saw someone post a comment that disturbed me so I responded to the poster. I don't know when this person was banned, or suspended, since I haven't been paying attention. This poster could have been banned for comments made on this thread, or perhaps on other threads. I was busy making moose jerky and lefse this weekend so this is news to me.

I got a show too about WWII, tuned in near the end on PBS reading some of the thoughts and letters written at that time. One of those letters talked about the sacrafice of "400,000 thousand young men to protect, defend, and maintain our way of life."
We're fighting the same battle, again.
The people who are complaining about the "cost" would not defend the United States under any circumstances.
The John Kerry/Joe Wilson line of thinking is that we should all emulate the French.
The cold-heartedness of the Libs and the French, toward the Iraqis, takes my breath away. The French are egotists who were happy that the US and the UK liberated them 2 times, but didn't want the US and the UK to liberate the Iraqis.
