PARIS - At least 839 burnt vehicles and 186 interpellations were recorded with 04H00 (03H00 GMT) in France for the night of Sunday to Monday according to a provisional assessment of the general direction of the French police force.

I suspect you're right and that France knows it. And the press is complicit in this because once it's known these "youths" have killed people, the world will start calling them by their rightful name: terrorists. And France isn't ready (and may never be ready) to face that.

It is only a matter of time. It is not burning itself out, but instead being emboldened.

As much as I dislike the French government, this doesn't bode well for any of us and I am not enjoying them getting their just desserts.

There but for the grace of God (and the guts of President Bush to prove we're willing to fight) go I. These people are not aggrieved and alienated. They are playing for eternal keeps. I am still frustrated that after this many nights, the Chirac and company do not get that.

Damned few, in the central old city. Remember, last time Paris was rebuilt it got wide boulevards to allow quick troop movements to put down insurrections (ha!) but it was long before automobiles were invented. The outer (newer) suburbs may have more but the central city is pretty much devoid of garages.
