How many innocent people will die because of the recent Washington Post revelations?
NRO ^ | 11/04/2005 | William Bennett

Item: Dana Priest of the Washington Post writes a front-page story on Wednesday headlined, CIA Holds Terror Suspects in Secret Prisons. Pay close attention to the second sentence of the story: "The secret facility is part of a covert prison system set up by the CIA nearly four years ago that at various times has included sites in eight countries, including Thailand, Afghanistan and several democracies in Eastern Europe, as well as a small center at the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba, according to current and former intelligence officials and diplomats from three continents."

"Secret"! "Covert"! So after the press and the Left make a meal of the allegation that people in the White House might have leaked the name of a covert operative, and after we find out that Plame was indeed not a covert operative under the law, the Washington Post — by its own admission — can print classified information that involves covert CIA activity?

This is an outrage. It took less than a day for al Jazeera to run with the story. And by Dana Priest's own admission in an online discussion forum on the Washington Post's website she states, "The article [I wrote] is bommeranging [sic] around Europe, especially Eastern Europe."

It sure is, and now the European Union, the Hague, and other organizations are investigating our allies who are working with us in holding high-value targets like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Ramzi bin Al-Shib. It's not enough that our allies in Europe have suffered terrorism (cf. Spain, the U.K.) because of their siding with us — we now have to expose others, and give more justification to terrorists to attack our allies? And we have to suffer the war-time distraction of rebuilding sites and moving these prisoners?

Well, let's hope it's that benign.

You may be correct- if you are talking about exposing these prisons to the freedom loving countries around the world. But in exposing these prisons- the freedom loving people of these countries have now been further exposed to the terrorists.

Ifits a crime to say who is a covert operative, and anyone working in a covert prison certainly qualifies as working covertly, why isn't it criminal to release the whereabouts of a covert prison?

"No one, but no one should allow themselves to be beat up constantly without fighting back."

I think the republicans let Watergate scare them into submission.

Just like now, they should have found back hard during Watergate, but decided to 'sacrifice' Nixon instead.

This stuff has reached very dangerous levels. We've got to put pressure on the leftist media. A simple beginning is to uniformly refer to them as the "Fifth Column Media", i.e. no more MSM or LSM -- strictly FCM from now on.

Fifth column refers to any clandestine group of people which works covertly inside a nation to undermine its strength while the nation is simultaneously suffering an overt attack by a foreign power or another faction in a civil war. [Wikipedia]

Yes- "renditioning" is mentioned in the WP article.

Of couse- the article also leads everyone to believe that this is GW's policy.

The WP clearly states that this all started under the Bush administration-

"The secret detention system was conceived in the chaotic and anxious first months after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, when the working assumption was that a second strike was imminent."

Here is a link to the WP article- you have to be registered in order to read it.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/01/AR2005110101644.html

Clearly, the WP is helping the terrorist all around the world.

Yes they did. It was stupid, but supposedly "honorable." Phooey! All it did was embolden Dems. Now Dems use investigations as weapons against Republicans. Also with Clinton if they weren't going to follow through and have him removed from office, they should have just left it alone. Once again they showed they do not have the will to win. I'm tired of Republicans. I am even more tired of them now that they have the majority.

Whether he's a conservative or not, our next President needs to be someone who can stand up against treason.

What "international law" are you talking about?

What elected legislative body writes "international law?"
Who are the constituents, and in which courts can it be tried?

"International law" is a farce.

I demand a Special Prosecutor be appointed to investigate the Washington Post and its sources. Clearly the paper is hoping the Government of the United States will be overthrown and the Osama Bin Ladens of the world will rule.

This paper is not fit for use to line a bird cage or anything else.

Don't forget the 'patriotic' N Y SLimes who revealed the secret CIA airbase at a public county airport in North Carolina.

That revelation potentially exposed American civilians to a terrorist attack.

Good question- it should be a crime. Where is the investigation?

The post hopes a lot of them die, so they can blame the deaths on Bush. They hate Bush to the point that they will activly side with America's enemies over our nation.

Perhaps a special prosecutor is in order. Perhaps we can find out who leaked the CIA prison story. Sort of a reverse "Flamegate" Inquisition.

"Perhaps a special prosecutor is in order. "

I agree. But who is going to call for one?

Not the Republicans. They'll just lick their wounds and rollover.

What do you think Peter Goss is doing at the CIA -- investigating but unlike some others he doesn't make a big splash about it -- he was named to the CIA to clean up the mess.

Do you enjoy making the same comments about Republicans over and over again? Are you one of the Hillary voters on here? You don't have a clue what is going on behind the scenes and you shouldn't! None of us should because we don't have a need to know.

Just like now, they should have found back hard during Watergate, but decided to 'sacrifice' Nixon instead.

Nixon was just short of a thug, with all the power of the president. He abused his authority and was rightly "sacraficed" because there were other things he did, besides Watergate, that no one wanted to be dug up. Despite any good that came out of his administration, it is very difficult to fight back under those circumstances.

I see your point, however, that Bush deserves defending. I am very confused about why there is not any kind of outrage over the whole Wilson thing on the part of elected Republicans. They are just laying there like slugs when the CIA sent Wilson (a private citizen) over there without so much as a confidentiality agreement and then let him publish an Op-Ed all the while no one in a government post could talk about it?? And now, why aren't they screaming about the leaks coming out of the CIA (supposed to be ultra-confidential) and tossing those scums in the clink? This whole thing stinks to high heaven.

There's some larger consipracy going on here and I'd really like to know what it is and who's behind it.

Worst thing is the attitude that media has like its speaking for the average joe. Who elected the media anyway?

If my friends are any example, the average joe is quite susceptible to media campaigns. This is a part of the cycle we have to break.

WEAN YOUR FRIENDS FROM TV NEWS.
