AULNAY-SOUS-BOIS, France - Rampaging youths shot at police and firefighters Thursday after burning car dealerships and public buses and hurling rocks at commuter trains, as eight days of riots over poor conditions in Paris-area housing projects spread to 20 towns.
Youths ignored an appeal for calm from President Jacques Chirac, whose government worked feverishly to fend off a political crisis amid criticism that it has ignored problems in neighborhoods heavily populated by first- and second-generation North African and Muslim immigrants.

Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my miscellaneous ping list.
They got what they deserved for letting so many followers of the "religion of peace" into their country.
Le Pen has a different reputation in France than he has with some on this site. Its not just a question of racism and antisemitism. He can also never overcome an image of incompetance and idiocy among the public. Has nothing to do with "iron fists."
Hmm, do you think John Kerry is flabbergasted about all this? He planned to ask Chirac what to do about everything. On bended knee, of course.
LOL! I guess that's his special mini-surrender pocket flag for use when quick surrender is called for. Its best to always be prepared.

Now they're fighting in the streets of Paris and Dijon.
Great moxie, Jacquesie

Where are Human Rights Watch, ACLU, Cindy Sheehan, all the other groups to protect the rights of the "yoots".
Why are they burning all the cars? Do they burn only ones that will not run, or are they burning their transportation out of the areas? This makes no sense to me, but then neither does the rioting.
Now if these pictures had been taken in the U.S.A. the world would be calling us a fascist country and how evil Bush is towards Muslims.
France deserves another 2 years of this to set their asses straight on the criminal government they have. I say let the riots continue until the tower falls.
French firefighters at a leather goods depot set ablaze in the Paris suburb of Le Blanc-Mesnil during the eighth night of rioting
Youths being arrested during the seventh night of violence in Aulnay sous Bois, where a police station was besieged and 40 cars were burnt
According to one report, a disabled woman was doused in petrol and set alight when she was unable to escape a bus under attack in the northern suburb of Sevran. She was rescued by the driver and is being treated for severe burns.
Disturbances also took place for the first time in other towns, including Rouen, Marseille and Dijon..
Marseilles is heavily Muslim. I was there a couple years ago, got lost on a foot tour of the town, and thought I had somehow wandered across the Med and onto another continent.
Really? And what were they doing in France--field trip or something? Seriously, what a moronic thing for a "reporter" to say! You must have done a double take!
Naah, this was just a lady anchor reading a teleprompter. Usually, they are amiable dunces used to reporting on local happenings (like Pumpkin Festivals). I have more of a problem with the person who WROTE that description of those pesky yoots *cough*... (I mean, did they ever bother to ask an average southern Black Baptist whose family has been in America for 300 years how they feel being called by the same "term" as Algerian/Arab IslamoNazi terrorist-criminals ?).
Those poor restaurant owners appear to be North African themselves. But as they are wearing Western clothes, they are obviously among the more assimilated factions. As always, the working stiffs bear the brunt of the acts of unassimilated thugs.
No doubt, the hard working assimilated factions used to depend on this store. Now, they will have to lug their groceries and goods on trains. I say we arm the local housewives. That would end the riots.
