The US has revealed that it removed more than 1.7 metric tons of radioactive material from Iraq in a secret operation last month.

"This operation was a major achievement," said US Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham in a statement.

He said it would keep "potentially dangerous nuclear materials out of the hands of terrorists."

Along with 1.77 metric tons of enriched uranium, about 1,000 "highly radioactive sources" were also removed.

The material was taken from a former nuclear research facility on 23 June, after being packaged by 20 experts from the US Energy Department's secret laboratories.

It was flown out of the country aboard a military plane in a joint operation with the Department of Defense, and is being stored temporarily at a Department of Energy facility...

There is another link that is worth clicking on and reading. I will provide it below on the first post.

It is dated November 02, 2005

There it states, and I quote:

..."In his book "Disinformation," [released just a little while ago] Richard Miniter shares the truth with anyone willing to listen.

For example, in June 2004, U.S. forces in Iraq seized 1.77 metric tons of enriched uranium that could have been used to make an atomic bomb. Miniter also wrote about Polish general Marek Dukaczewski, who received information from Iraqs about chemical weapons being sold on the black market.

"Polish military officials bought seventeen chemical weapons warheads from Iraqis for $5,000 apiece." Miniter wrote, "to keep them from Iraq's so-called insurgents. ...Tests confirmed that some of the warheads contained cyclosarin, a nerve gas five times more powerful than sarin. Thses chemical weapons were supposed to have been completely destroyed during the 1991-1998 UN inspection regime."

Other sources provide the truth that Democrats claim they seek...

[A must read]

Why hasn't the administration and Pubs in Congress talked about these issues? They just go along with the Dims and the MSM.

The regular Joe American would say, "Glad we go that stuff!"

I presume that I will read about this in a front-page, above-the-fold NYTimes expose by this week-end.

But, but, but . . . Saddam did not have WMD or nuke stuff. We all know his military was still fighting with bows and arrows and spears and swords. How can this be so???? /sarcasm still on.

They've avoided a LOT of tidbits.

Didn't we find out the terrorists in Iraz had artillery shells filled with some gas (Sarin?)?

As I recall, one warhead contained enough gas to kill 10,000 people in Manhattan.

Along with 1.77 metric tons of enriched uranium

Why does a research facility have almost 2 tons of enriched uranium? Is this normal?

Why hasn't the administration and Pubs in Congress talked about these issues?

The biggest failure of the Bush Administration has been their inability to get this news out to the public, not only in terms of WMD's, but also in terms of other successes in Iraq.

Until they do so, we run a grave risk of losing the WH, and decreasing our majorities in both the Senate and the House.

Well I guess that pretty much puts a nail in the coffin of "there were no WMD's in Iraq."

Although IMO, when we captured Saddam Hussein, we found the WMD in Iraq.

Agreed.

There needs to be a long list, reviewed point by point, with the American people.

Another point:

Why are Democrats so intent on telling 2,000 military families their loved ones died for nothing?

Sigh. If we've learned one thing about the Bush Administration, it is that they are not stupid.

So perhaps it's not a matter of "failure," but rather the price they're paying for keeping secret operations secret.

But of course, it's lots easier to simply assume the worst.

I personally feel that the information will be released when the time is right. Most likely it is currently considered classified, and Bush puts his country above himself.

Once it becomes public information, we'll see it in the paper.

I'm guessing that a lot more has happened, or is happening over there than we know.

Thanks for the moment of insight. That is the double-edged sword with which the GOP battles.
