For lying about what he said to Russert

More generically, for lying to investigators and the GJ. The indictment puts those lies into several contexts, one of which is Russert.

But the alleged general lie is that Libby asserted to investigators that he had no indpenedent knowledge of Plame, when the evidence is that he did have independent knowledge, e.g., via having inquired of the CIA.

If the GOP agrees with anything I AM DONE

Careful ... there could definitely be benefits to agreeing to an investigation, if only to get Wilson to testify openly and under oath.

Schumer's talking now; that means they lost.

On the contrary. He said having called for a closed session the GOP has finally agreed to get to a matter that has been on the back burner for over a year. I'll hold judgement until we hear from Frist.

Is Buchanan agreeing that the President took us to war on lies?

Pat must have started taking that Saudi money too if he's towing that line.

The nitwit dems are all about theatrics and shrill... They are ineffective and poltically impotent YET the liberal masses are quite happy and often empowered by the gala of one of thier 'leaders' in the 'fray' -a tale acted out by idiots for idiots -signifying nothing...

I can't get over the irony that if there had been no investigation there would have been no crime.

Or better yet, if Libby had told investigators "I called the CIA, then I told the reporters about Plame." Still no crime ;-)

I was so down that the criminality of the previous administration never had an indictment.

Huh? Just to name a few of the former Clinton officials who were indicted:

-Clinton Agriculture Secretary Espy was indicted for allegedly taking bribes from Tyson Foods. He was acquitted at trial.
-Clinton HUD Secretary Cisneros was indicted for lying to the FBI about amounts paid to silence his mistress - they were over $10,000 per year, and he should have paid gift taxes. He pled guilty to a misdemeanor.
-Bill Clinton himself was held in contempt of court for lying to a federal grand jury about "not having sex with that woman". He lost his law license for 5 years and was disbarred from the Supreme Court.
Former Clinton official were indicted in connection with Travelgate, but acquitted.

-Scooter Libby has been indicted for lying about his conversations with Tim Russert and Matt Cooper. But he hasn't been convicted of anything and is innocent until proven guilty.

The only thing the Republicans have grown so far is a bone fragment!

They want to get the deficit reduction bill passed, which would be a victory (of sorts, as is always the case with these things) for our side.

Thought I saw somewhere in this thread that a majority could open up the session again. Why don't they just do that if it is permitted and get on with the bill passage?

"IMO .. the Dems are trying to take down all Top Republican Leadership

This is their "Big Play""

Hmmm. Isn't that how the Nazi party consolidated their power when they maxed out at the polls?

There has always been a 'phase two' part of the investigation in the plan. The following was released on June 17, 2004.

Here's what they're demanding (in bold) They want a commiment to the second phase of the Senate Intelligence Committee..

Senate Intelligence Committee Unanimously Approves Pre-War Intelligence Report

WASHINGTON, DC– Senator Pat Roberts, Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and Senator John D. Rockefeller IV, the Committee's Vice Chairman, issued the following joint statement:

"Today, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence voted unanimously to approve its report on pre-war intelligence regarding Iraq's weapons of mass destruction programs, ties to terrorists, threat to regional stability and violations of human rights. Today's vote is the culmination of over one year of intense scrutiny by the Committee of the Intelligence Community's pre-war assessments. The Committee is currently engaged with the Central Intelligence Agency over the issue of classification. The Committee is extremely disappointed by the CIA's excessive redactions to the report. Our goal is to release publicly as much of the report's findings and conclusions as soon as possible. We will work toward that goal, as we continue our work on phase two of the Committee's review."

Republicans better come out with the same or higher intensity than the Dims or I'm going to be an angry conservative. I don't want to hear about Republicans working with Dims right now. I want conservative leadership now! Frist did a good job calling this a stunt, but that's not enough.
