At least the BBC is taking notice of the modern day Joe Stalin of Africa and the starvation he has brought on his own people. If President Bush criticized the famine and Mugabe the Beeb would probably take Mugabe's side.

How about... ... they know little about work, responsibility, effort, rewards and punishment?

Just like the browing terminally ignorant in America. You flip the switch, and electricity comes out of the wall... nothing further required.

Mugabe was named as the Heinz Foundation's Distinguished Lecturer some years back.

They will admit they made a mistake. But they aren't about to give the land back to the rightful and productive owners.

Yeah, maybe the fact that the government allowed these squatters to murder the farmers so they could take their land should also be recognized as an "error" as well.

So is their conclusion that white farmers=food, black farmers=starvation?

They would have done far better to give the land to the blacks who worked for the white farmers. They would have at least known what to do with the land. Instead they give the land to cronies of Mugabe.

Just imagine if Clinton had decided to nationalize farm land in the US and give it to the 10,000 top donors to the DNC. I doubt we would have a national problem with obesity anymore.

Bad enough to take away the farms from the whites but then
this year they expelled hundreds of thousands of people
who support the opposition from the cities (all of them
black). This Khmer Rouge-style operation has led to unknown
suffering. All we see is what the BBC can smuggle out. Who
knows how many have died or are going to die?

You may be right (there's plenty of AIDS in the neighborhood) but I still grieve at the loss of life
(Terri Schiavo in America or thousands in Africa). Sometimes we need to think about others and the need to help
them. I'd love to "take out" Mugabe but I guess we can at least pray for these suffering people and their deliverance.

I'd love to see a prosperous, thriving Africa. Ain't gonna happen, though. Not until Africans shed their tribal identities for national identities, or they somehow manage to build workable nations along tribal lines.
Better to just let the Chinese have it. They're lookin' for livin' space anyway.

One can only conclude that Zimbabweans are just not good enough to make a success of socialism.

I'm sure that Americans could do much better.

Of course it would fail throwing people into modern industrial agriculture with no background in anything except in being poor. The area they are trying to farm is not ideal land in that its inputs have to be carefully manipulated so as to produce the farm products they want. This land will revert to scrub or ol' Mugabe will sell it to the Chinese or other foreigners.
