John Jay's opinion should count for more than something, it should be of paramount importance when considering anything to do with the SC. He is one of the most underappreciated great founding persons in the history of the United States, and ALL SC nominees should be just like John Jay or as close as possible. A SC loaded with like minded people to John Jay would give us a SC that the founding fathers intended us to always have, and would 100% guarnatee that ALL of the stupid rulings given us by ginsbueg, stevens, breyer, souter, and most by o'conner would never have happened.

I was rooting for JRB, who is not a Catholic. She belongs to "Church of Christ" or something like that. Dunno if that falls under Evangelical.
That's the big question isn't it? Will the RINOs vote to confirm or side with the Democrats?
My guess is that at least a couple of RINOs will vote with the Democrats and that no Democrats will vote with the Republicans. Not even Democrats up for election next year in solidly Republican states will be given a pass on this vote by Moveon and the other left wing groups that control most of the Democrats' funding.
EXCELLENT POST! I agree totally. The Senate is the biggest major obstical to conservatism being put into practice legislatively. Much of the conservative agenda that the Senate has accomplished is ONLY because the DeLay led firm conservative majority keeps passing conservative good legislation and forces the Senate into action instead of sitting around picking their noses fo rmonths at a time which they would do if the House wasn't putting the onus on them to "pee or get off the pot" as it were. The Senate must be dealt with.

By the way, I also believe it is unConstitutional for the Judiciary Committee itself to stop a vote for the nominee by its ability to deny sending the nominee to the Senate.
You're ignorant of Senate practices. For SCOTUS nominees, even a candidate who is opposed by a majority of the judiciary committee still gets a vote on the floor of the Senate. They are said to be sent to the Senate with a 'negative recommendation' by the committee. Bork received such a designation when he was nominated, and was rejected by the Senate. Thomas was forwarded to the Senate "without recommendation" -- i.e., with neither approval nor disapproval by the committee -- and obviously went on to be confirmed by the whole Senate.
Miers CHOSE not to be voted on by the entire Senate.
