oWf -- I think a thread of its own is needed with the senate contact information.

We need to write NICE, persuasive letters. I am composing mine now to McCain and to my two senators. I think I'll write one to Lindsey Graham too.

Hold your fire while you consider if many of the candidates you liked might have withdrawn their names from consideration..It may turn out that JRB and Priscilla Owen did NOT want to go through the confirmation war after what they had already been through..

" but very quickly it ended with Imus getting a letter of apology from the NY AG. I think I'm describing what happened accurately, at least as Imus described it."
......................................................
It may not be illegal what Imus is doing with that ranch but it sure is immoral.

"I can't wait for Kennedy, Reid, Schumer et. al. try to explain how Alito is such an extremist for concluding that the then-Democrat Governor of Pennsylvania, Bob Casey, did not violate the Constitution by signing the Penn. Abortion Control Act into law."

THAT would be a beautiful thing. And we can all sit and watch, smiling, and gleeful, taunting them a bit, kinda like "Robert" when "Raymond" is about to get is big trouble for something he did, and Robert just sits there smiling, hands to chin, egging him on, enjoying his displeasure. Heh heh heh. 8)

We need to be calling ALL red state Dems. Let's get them SCARED NOW! Ring their phones off the hook. I've already called Bayh and told his office "I know he's thinking of running for President, but he best not filibuster or I'll work with everything I've got to get him out of Washington!" *tee hee*

"If you see the SCOTUS as a place for quotas and not judicial excellence, then gender, race, religion, ethnicity, etc., are relevant to your distorted world view and matter."

No. Laura Bush is. And her hubby let her, apparently. Don't try to foist her remarks on me.

My goal here, BTW, has nothing to do with this one incident. I'm just trying to point out that we need to take the next primary seriously. Bush is the past. And if we keep him on a pedestal, conservatism will never reach JFK levels, because JFK was more conservative than Bush.

Agreed. We must all show the RINOs no quarter.

Yes. But most importantly we must identify who the RINO's are.

If there is any RINO trouble at all we must put pressure on the dissenters, instead of concentrating most of our criticisms on the majority leader.

"NY closes its probe of Don Imus ranch
(6 comments; last comment posted March 26, 2005 10:31 pm) print | email this story

The New Mexican
March 26, 2005

New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer has closed his inquiry into the Imus Ranch, located between Santa Fe and Las Vegas, N.M., without finding any impropriety, The New York Times reported Friday.

The Times and The Wall Street Journal both had reported Thursday that Spitzer sought information about the New York-based charity that operates the ranch, which radio host Don Imus and his wife opened in 1999 as a summer camp for sick children.

New Mexico Attorney General Patricia Madrid’s spokeswoman told The New Mexican on Thursday that her office also was seeking information regarding the high ratio of dollars spent to children served — about $26,000 per child — at the ranch and its lack of fund-raising expenses. There was no indication Friday that Madrid has completed her inquiry.

State offices closed early in observance of Good Friday.

An Imus spokesman who declined to be identified said Friday that Imus raises most of the money via his national radio show. “He’s got a pulpit that most fund-raisers don’t have. He mentions the ranch and money comes in.”

The spokesman also said the ranch’s $2.6 million in expenses last fiscal year includes $800,000 in depreciation and the high costs of flying sick children to New Mexico.

“It’s the position of the ranch that whether it’s $20,000 or $30,000 per child, we’d spend more than that if it were going to make a difference with these kids,” the spokesman said.

Imus on Friday used his morning radio program for a second day to attack The Wall Street Journal reporter whose story said the Imus family’s personal stays at the ranch had drawn scrutiny from tax officials and regulators.

“I’m not maligning the paper,” Imus told listeners, “just this punk.”

The Wall Street Journal’s managing editor issued a statement saying the article was accurate and fair and called its author, Robert Frank, “one of our most experienced and capable reporters.”

A spokesman for Spitzer’s office told the Times that the New York attorney general’s examination was triggered by the charity’s request for an extension to file tax data and by an anonymous letter saying the office ought to check into Imus’ use of the ranch."

That was the only way to preserve the integrity of The Constitution."

What are you talking about?? The voice of the people is not part of our constitution?? The petition of Gov is not part of the constitution?? You might try reading more history and get your head out of your nether parts

I hope all the angry rightwingers are satisfied with the pick of Sam Alito.

Well, this formerly disappointed conservative is back on the reservation BIG TIME.

This is a great pick. Let's get er done!

Tony Snow said on FNC this morning that Specter will either support Alito, or the GOP caucus will kick him out as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee.

This is exactly correct. Everybody can chill about Specter. He will be on board, or consigned to histroy as Judiciary chair.

Alito is going to be so impressive in the hearings that Byrd, Nelson, et al, will come on board quickly. Biden, Schumer, and others risk alienating their own Italian Catholic constituencies, so that will temper their opposition. Lincoln Chafee is facing a bitter primary fight from the right and may have to vote for Alito to get through the primary.

Politically, this is a home run.

The JC hearing for Miers may have been a disaster. It may not have been. Regardless, she deserved that hearing. I'm very disappointed at the underhanded tactics used that deterred that hearing from occurring, regardless of how much I may have agreed with the outcome.
