Now we will see if George Bush has the balls to do what we elected him to do.

You have proved yourself completely incapable of rationality.

My first pick was JRB. Keep it up, you are almost ready to reach "Dane" like status with your pronouncements.

I think that I was not clear in what I wrote.

What I was trying to state is that the "gang of 14" is now clearly not the only group in play, but that other "moderate" Republicans are no longer dependable votes if it were to come to a "nuclear option" vote after a cloture vote failed, and Specter, in particular. With the "conservative movement's" abandonment of any pretense that the nomination process should be governed by what is written in the Constitution, a whole host of other "moderate" Republicans are now released from even lip service to considering that to be important.

"I hear Harry Reid Hates him."

I REALLY want Harry Reid to wake up screaming
that the conservatives are marching him
naked to the execution trenches.

I want that nasty ole man to quake in his boots
that the conservatives are after him personally.

I hope this nomination adds to those nightmares
and fears. I hope Reid has a nervous, drooling
breakdown, on the floor, on C-SPAN.

And may his Democratic tribe increase.

Just contacted Sen. Corzine's office in support of Judge Alito. Said it would set a good example for the NJ Sen and NJ gov candicate to support a "native son". Also contacted Sen Lautenberg's office to support Judge Alito.

Jonah Goldberg reports the following on NRO corner:

WITH ONLY SLIGHT EXAGGERATION: IT'S GO-TIME [Jonah Goldberg]
This is it. Back in June I wrote, "In Washington, conservatives and liberals are quietly loading up on drinking water, D batteries and extra ammo, in preparation for the coming battle over judges. Ralph Neas himself has been seen by the campfire carving notches into the stock of his rifle, muttering, 'Pain don't hurt.' No one knows when the fight's coming, but everyone knows it is."

Ever since, my prognostications seemed wrong. Roberts virtually sailed through. Miers didn't cause a split between right and left but between right and right. But now, this is the guy. Cokie Roberts said a senior Demcratic Senator has already denounced Alito as a "rightwing whacko" or words to that effect. Nina Totenberg called him "filibuster bait." Even now, federalist society and Naral types are running around town ducking their heads into barber shops and shoe shine parlors, shouting "it's on! It's on!" Those inside throw down their newspapers, haircuts unfinished, and race to the law libraries.

It reminds me of one of those scenes from "Any Which Way You Can" or "Caddyshack" where the buzz spreads that the big fight or the big match is on.

The seventh seal has been broken, the goat entrails point toward gotterdamerung, it's on.

If Nina Totenberg calls Judge Alito "filibuster bait", I like that.

Precisely WHAT ARE THE CONSTITUTIONAL REQUIREMENTS for a person to be seated on the Supreme Court?

I stopped reading there. By your standard, Pee Wee Herman is "constitutionally qualified".

The Constitution sets minimum standards. That doesn't mean that the nation as a whole can't expect a higher level of qualifications out of its candidates. For example, if a 25 year old homeless bum was nominated to be Secretary of Defense, do you really think you might not think that he is unqualified?

An outstanding pick by the president and Team Bush.

I'm going to call my swing Dim senator to urge him to come out in support of Sam Alito today, like he did with Miers.

Well, I did decide to read more:

. There is only one reason that Brownback and other conservatives demanded the clearly executive-privilege-protected documents from the White House, and that was to deny her a vote

How does doing such deny her a vote? The President could have said no, and still proceeded with the vote. If you can't tell the difference between a filibuster and people expressing opinions, then I can't help you further.

Johnson won by 87 votes but Stevenson accused him of ballot-rigging.

IIRC Landslide Lyndon's crime has been confirmed in the past decade. Someone came forward and confessed to the details.

My impression of Casey Jr. is that he is an idiot.

This came up on another thread a while back. Someone from PA said that Casey is depending on his father's name, and his father was very popular, but that he himself is, well, pretty much an idiot, I guess -- and terrible on TV, and that the Dems' strategy is to keep him hidden as much as possible.

Now we will see if George Bush has the balls to do what we elected him to do.

I think it's more if the SENATORS have the gonads.

Because if there's one blazing fact to emerge from the Miers flap, it's a message, loud and clear, to the RINO's in the Senate. Especially those seven who undermined the party and went out making deals on their own.

AS WELL AS Frist and others scared and reluctant to invoke what was called the "nuclear" option. They were too afraid of bad press.

I am waiting, with bated breath and unlimited interest, to see a John McCain go gallvanting all about and talking this nominee down. Conservatives across the country made it know that they considered the Miers nomination a wussy thing to do.

That's the intrigue and message of it all.

Laura Ingraham calls this nomination "fantastic on every level." Another good sign.
