just breaking!!!!!!!!
Bush had total control over who he picked. Ceasar didn't have control over being stabbed or not.
Bush's pick was a bad one. If he had properly floated Miers and paid attention to the reaction, he would have never made the pick in the first place. That was his blunder and he and his advisers should know better.
I have to believe that either Bush is no longer listening to the advisers that got him elected. In fact, he may not be listening to any advisers at all beyond Andy Card and Laura Bush.
What part of "It was how you handled it" that you do not understand??????
But now he many not want to risk the hard line conservatives.
I will say this right here for all to see: if George Bush buckles to the hardliner malcontents, he will lose my support, period.
I'm sick tp death of all the bashing and trashing; I'm sick of a small group of people who NEVER WANTED HIM AS THE NOMINEE IN THE FIRST PLACE, wailing and moaning about everything he does.
If he lets you all run him into a corner, I'm done with him. And there sure as hell are more of "me" than there are of "you." I won't be the only one to go.

/Ok, I'll take your word for it. Any withdrawl will be seen as White House orchestrated. None of this she stepped aside for the good of whatever. It she withdrawls, other than death, then it was done at the will of the WH. No weasel words.
She's gotta go through the process.

I agree.
Then we can have that "fight" everybody's been dying for, only this time we can see the "real" "true" conservatives try to tear this party up.

I heard an interview with him...where he was asked about his "political future"...and did he have POTUS aspirations.
He demurred, of course, but he also said that he has a "self-imposed" term limit of 2 terms...so whatever happens after that...he isn't thinking about.
Wouldn't you know that one of the GOOD ones would self-impose a term limit on himself!!
I agree with you that Judge Brown would be an excellent choice.
John
Makes sense to me, AmishDude. Of course, this change would require a constitutional amendment.... How would you rate the prospects that Congress would ever initiate such an amendment? It would take two-thirds of both houses to agree on the amendment before it can be sent to the states for ratification. Alternatively, the legislatures of two-thirds of the several states can petition Congress to call a Constitutional Convention. But such a convention would not necessarily be limited to the business of amending the terms of members of the federal bench. People might fear such a convention might open a whole new can of worms....
Either way, Congress then decides which Mode of Ratification will be used: (1) either 3/4 of the Legislatures of the several states, or (2) 3/4 of the Conventions of the several states called for that purpose.
Congress historically has followed the first ratification route. But if they seriously wanted to "muddy up the waters," they could instruct all 50 states to call ratification conventions of their own.... That ought to slow things down -- a lot.
Sigh. It all comes back to the same problem/cause: Congress' penchant for extraconstitutional or unconstitutional exercise of its Article I powers. The Left is dedicated to strengthening the courts at the expense of the executive. I don't see that the Left in Congress would find anything particularly advantageous in limiting the terms of federal judges and justices -- i.e., the power of the courts.
Just thinking out loud.... sorry
Well I already explained this to someone else but it boils down to losing the demand for an up or down vote as the fair thing to do. It was a good line and I think helped us. I would have preferred to see her voted down by the judiciary committtee. The system would have worked and the next time around we would have had that same weapon to weild against a filibuster. However, time to move forward for all of us.
Just as I hit POST...I realized how stupid the last sentance was...
Of course, a self-imposed term limit is ON HIMSELF...duh!! lol
I don't think there is damage done that won't be healed before 2006 -- I have been on flame wars on here before and after it is all done, we go back to the normal happenings.
I am a Party Officer in my County and no one I talked with liked this nomination all that well but they also supported Pres Bush. Most hoped that she would withdraw her nomination.
I don't see a big rift in my County or State of Oklahoma over this nomination. What I do see are people that want Congress to get off their duff and cut pork and for the President to nominate someone to SCOTUS we can all get behind.
This site and conservative commentators with people who call only are a microcosm of the people in the trenches -- it doesn't tell the whole story. It is like brothers and sisters fighting but when someone from outside the family picks on them they band together. If the RATs think this has done damage, bring it on and they will see how this large family of the Conservative grassroots will band together and take them down.
I just hope that when GWB announces her nomination, good sense prevails and both sides of the aisle put all the BS aside and get down to doing what's right.
<snort!>
Dr. Tom was one of the ones that signed the Contract for America and left after three terms. He is one of the good ones.
He will be speaking at our County Banquet on Nov 18th and I cannot wait to hear him.
Says you. I grew up in the church (both large and small) and I know what's going on. Only about 10% - 20% of people who consider themselves born again Christians really are.
I know one girl that has been "born again" about 10 different times. Each time she feels that this is the real one. It's been about 6 months so it's probably time for another one.
Most people who go to church truly believe in God but only in a cultural way. Ask them about the concept of the trinity or the role of the Holy Spirit and they'll look at you with glazed over eyes.
I likewise am a party officer in Kansas, and will tell you the damage to an already divided party is going to be considerable.
Like I said, you know zilch about Evangelical Christianity. BTW, I am a theologian and have worked on two major Bible translations.
I have said this from day one of this Administration -- Andy Card is NOT my favorite person in the Administration -- never has been and never will be.
Just don't think it is a smart move to name your WH legal counsel to the SCOTUS. That in itself causes problems who ever does it IMHO.
"Your knowledge of Evangelical Christianity is zilch."
Is it as good as Jimmy Carter's knowledge of it?
Peggy Noonan actually suggested this. When I read that article, I thought, "Nice theory. No chance." And now...I don't believe "shock" would be too strong a word.
Ann Coulter has published no articles for a month that did not focus (criticism) on Miers. One wonders what she will say now.
Like the Terri wars. We seem to have recovered from that pretty well... and that was damn ugly.

ROTF! So true. My daughter went to a Baptist camp every year in Oklahoma. She used to tell me the very same thing. They got born again over and over because it wore off during the school year.
