OTOH, 'tis very possible that the celebrated PD vanities re the causative agent for the good things to come..
To: Pessimist
Are we supposed to forget that he even tried to pull this one off?Huh? Pulled what off? Miers selected all the nominees on Bush's short list. Miers was/is a true conservative. Granted, she lacked judicial experience, but I am certain she would have been a steadfast conservative voice on the SC.
It is rather unfortunate that many here have simply dug in their heels against Miers, not because they actually opposed her, but because they were spoinling for a good fight. Very sad.

sykes would be fine, also hear that Karen Williams of SC outstanding jurist.

Not that I was a big supporter of this nomination, I could not believe the ads I started seeing on TV against Miers. It was unbelievable to watch. There will be less donations from me based on these ads alone.

Agreed. They should leave the woman alone now. She's taken enough abuse from both the left and the right and all in between.
To: pepperhead; Miss Marple
How do you NOT know that for sure?
What has gone on here is inexusable. The discussion should have been entirely about her record, and not vile attacks on her character, and biting sarcasm and vitriol.
Ms Miers is an honorable woman. A whole lot of people here should be begging for forgiveness, and not reveling in some sort of 'victory.'
It didn't have to be this way.

100% agree. Abortion is the cause of this usurpation. No other issue divides the nation so much. the elected leaders kicked the issue to the courts and now the courts are paying the price. We should kick the issue back to the elected leaders and to the States. With the cheap interstate travel I do not see a problem. Hell NOW and ACLU would have charted buses from non abortion states to pro abortion states.
To: SoFloFreeper
Good riddance. Now Pres. Bush should select a real conservative with good qualifications.
There are hundreds to choose from.
If he chooses Gonzalez, he has betrayed conservatives.
To: TAdams8591
Changing parties does not mean she changed beliefs.Does that include Ronald Reagan?
To: Jokelahoma
What is with the pouting garbage. Talk about cheap namecalling. I am just disappointed with the level of mud-slinging in the past 2 weeks. When you disagree and are attacked in the fashion we have seen it is disappointing that people you respected would lower themselves to that level and bash the President.
Getting called Bushbot, Rhino, retarded, imbacile, stupid and just about every other name, now that is the tactic your Thought Police have been using. Check the old threads and say your proud of that behavior. Most of the threads are void of the President's defenders for that reason. Look at this thread and see who are the attackers even after their victory?? But I guess the ends justify the means.

I fear that we, (those who opposed Ms Meirs) will get exactly what they have asked for, and will find that their perceived sense of self importance, and power is not nearly what they thought it was in the face of the "wobbly" republicrats in the senate.
Never forget the law of unintended consequences.

I don't see how it's so difficult to "sell" an originalist to the American public, MSM aside.
I expect 80% of the U.S. citizenry were not happy with the emminant domain (Lelo?) decision, at least the 80% who understood it. Even Libs are opposed to "big business" having legal power to take away private homes.
How hard can it be to paint Souter et al as opposed to private property rights? And Scalia et al as champions of liberty? Throw in Janice Rogers Brown, and point out who's side of this debate she is on.
Good grief, it seems it's always about whether or not lib women want to kill their kids in the womb, to both sides of the political spectrum. Seems to me there are other issues to fight (and win) on. If JRB happens to be pro-life, pro-2A, so much the better, eh?
I can't believe we're not hammering this property rights thing down the throat of every lib pundit and "newscaster", in this SC nominee issue. Unless of course.... half the pubs actually supported the Lelo decision.. argh.

What goes around will come around and I hope I'm around to see it. I won't be on this Web site anymore because you guys disgust me as much as the Libs disgust me.

I respectfully disagree. I've read a few. Also, I do believe that I have seen evidence of a willing audience here.

Souter's record said he was conservative. So did Kennedy's. So did O'Connor's.
Judicial record means nothing when they get up to that court.
For example, everyone is saying "Maureen Mahoney" should be the replacement. Mahoney's bio shows that she was the lawyer of record who won the Michigan State Affirmative Action case for the democrats. When asked if she didn't have a problem with that because of her supposed conservatism, she said that she had "no problem" with the result.
Put this widely acclaimed "conservative" on the court, and you're no closer to your goal than if you had Miers there.

And now all the Miers haters are gearing up to do the same to the next person the President nominates.
What kind of sad world do you live in?
It wasn't about hate for Harriet Miers or President Bush. She is not even in the neighborhood of the best a Republican president can put on the Supreme Court Bench.
