Daniel Craig will have a problem playing the new James Bond - because he hates guns.
The actor will wield 007's famous Walther PPK in the movie Casino Royale.
But he revealed in OK! magazine: "I hate handguns. Handguns are used to shoot people and as long as they are around, people will shoot each other.
"That's a simple fact. I've seen a bullet wound and it was a mess. It was on a shoot and it scared me. Bullets have a nasty habit of finding their target and that's what's scary about them."
Nor does the 37-year-old share Bond's love of Martinis shaken and stirred.
"I love a Martini straight up. I don't think anybody makes a Martini stirred any more," he said.
Craig was unveiled earlier this month as the successor to Pierce Brosnan. He will play a tougher, grittier 007 in Casino Royale, which is based on Ian Fleming's first Bond book.
The movie is due for release in November next year.
Craig is not the first Bond to reveal a hatred of guns.
Roger Moore, who played the superspy from 1973 to 1985, said after quitting the role that he hated "that awful pose" of Bond with his gun which has become an iconic movie image.
The actor later became an ambassador for children's charity Unicef and declared: "Today I am completely opposed to small arms and what they can do to children. I played every role tongue-in-cheek because I don't really believe in that sort of hero. I don't like guns."

Sigourney Weaver hates gus as well. In an interview I heard her state she had real trouble with doing the movie "Aliens" because of her having to shoot a gun in the movie.
"I'm wondering if he forget to mention the other staple of Bond films that he doesn't like..."

Whadda shame. Connery was the best and those old sixties Bond movies are still the ones to watch for their campy futuristic look.

It's funny how times change. I watch those old Bond movies for 10 minutes, and they're laughable. He'll grab some girl off the street, kiss her real rough- perfect stranger- and she goes- "Oh, James...." Then they end up in bed. Ha- try that in real life. And The old Bonds in the movies were like 60 years old.
Roger Ebert said once that teenagers used to sneak into the movie theaters to watch adults have sex, and now adults go to the movies to watch teenagers have sex.
What's he going to do? Hit them with his rhythm stick?
Fleming's Bond was an expert with a pistol, pure and simple. If this new guy hates guns so much, he cannot in good conscience play this role. Ironically, I've read that when Ian Fleming underwent a course for undercover operatives in Canada during WWII, he failed an assignment to kill an "enemy agent" in cold blood.

The Bond films have been becoming more politically correct with every new film over the past decade. Bond is now a wussy nancy boy who's always at war with his female boss.
Soon Bond will be using a tasr gun, drinking vegetable smoothies, Rosie O'Donnell will be the new bond girl, and the plot will be saving SF from evil republicans who have invented a anti-homosexual satellite death ray.
Do they make that??? We might want to buy it by the gallon for some congress critters, aka libs. In the case of Hitlery, we should find an "evil vaccine". Or maybe some holy water to throw on her.
