New Bond: I hate guns

Daniel Craig will have a problem playing the new James Bond - because he hates guns.

The actor will wield 007's famous Walther PPK in the movie Casino Royale.

But he revealed in OK! magazine: "I hate handguns. Handguns are used to shoot people and as long as they are around, people will shoot each other.

"That's a simple fact. I've seen a bullet wound and it was a mess. It was on a shoot and it scared me. Bullets have a nasty habit of finding their target and that's what's scary about them."

Nor does the 37-year-old share Bond's love of Martinis shaken and stirred.

"I love a Martini straight up. I don't think anybody makes a Martini stirred any more," he said.

Craig was unveiled earlier this month as the successor to Pierce Brosnan. He will play a tougher, grittier 007 in Casino Royale, which is based on Ian Fleming's first Bond book.

The movie is due for release in November next year.

Craig is not the first Bond to reveal a hatred of guns.

Roger Moore, who played the superspy from 1973 to 1985, said after quitting the role that he hated "that awful pose" of Bond with his gun which has become an iconic movie image.

The actor later became an ambassador for children's charity Unicef and declared: "Today I am completely opposed to small arms and what they can do to children. I played every role tongue-in-cheek because I don't really believe in that sort of hero. I don't like guns."

It's not like we needed to be turned off any more from Hollywood. I take notice every time a "tough guy" from the entertainment industry like Fred Dirsch, Angelina Jolie, or even Ahnold make their living on violence then denounce personal firearms all the while employing bodyguards and owning weapons themselves.

At least Roger Moore had the good sense to keep his trap shut until he was done making his fortune.

No Guns.

No Martini.

I'm wondering if he forget to mention the other staple of Bond films that he doesn't like.

Roger Moore was pretty limp wristed as Bond, but at least he didn't bash the role while he had it. This idiot is poisoning the well before they even shoot one frame of film. Oh well, it doesn't matter. The Bond franchise is as dead as Star Trek. How many more times can they beat the same dead horse?

He was on a shoot and saw a bullet wound and it was a mess. What a gay statement. Can tell he was never in the military.

Seeing as how I've ignored every other thread on this topic, I'll pipe in here.

This guy is a wimp. If he had his way, then people like me would no longer need to fear smaller people having an "equalizer" like a firearm. A simple cudgel or broadsword would be all I would need to beat most of others smaller than me into submission. The Rule of the Brute would be returned to society.

That is not the kind of place I want to live. This idiot is far too effeminate to be a Bond. What will he want banned next? Piinty sticks?

What next? Will the new Bond carry a dolly and prance?

Sean Connery is the archetype for Bond. This wee girl doesn't come close.

The original poster didn't quite do it the right way, but still, it did kick off the discussion, so I'm linking it.

Just give him pink ribbons to deal with the bad guys. The original 007 will never be replaced except for possibly Roger Moore.

A Martini that isn't stirred IS shaken and then poured into the glass straight up.

I've made a point to see every Bond flick since Goldfinger but I'll be giving this one a pass. The last few have pretty much sucked anyway.
