Civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks has died, Local 4 has learned.
Parks, 92, reportedly died around 7 p.m. Monday at St. John Hospital on Detroit's east side.
Parks' refusal to give up her bus seat to a white man in Montgomery, Ala., in 1955 landed her in jail and sparked a bus boycott that is considered the start of the modern civil rights movement. The bus is on display at the Henry Ford Museum, Dearborn.
Parks, was born on Feb. 4, 1913, in Tuskegee, Ala. She lived in Detroit.

Rosa, you were a gutsy lady. May you Rest In Peace.

regardless of what some may think of her.. I see her as a central figure in civil rights fight... she did much in her actions alone...
Rest In Peace Rosa...

Her politics...you must admit, telling blacks not to sit in 'a white mans seat' was and still is wrong.

I don't think she ever fed upon or profited from her celebrity.

The bus is on display at the Henry Ford Museum, Dearborn. I was going to make a pilgrimage to Lourdes, but now I think I'll go to Dearborn. Oh, Dear.
(Sorry, I'm really trying hard not to laugh and not be nasty!)

I read she worked for the NAACP at the time of the arrest. She certainly was an influential person.

Sage of Chappaqua Alert! Bubba will be all over this like white on rice (so to speak). After all, he and Miss Parks rode the bus together, didn't they?
And of course, Clinton wants to be the bride at every wedding and the corpse at every funeral.
Meanwhile, condolences to the family of Miss Parks.
IMO, the civil rights movement was a righteous cause up until about 1965. Since then, under the likes of Jackson, Sharpton, and Mfume, it was degenerated badly.
To: jmc1969
God rest her soul. Parks was a great American.

It's sad that she's died, but at least now she's finally out of East Detroit.
