A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....10-21,22,23-05....T.G.I.F. at the Finest

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

~ Billie, Dutchess, Dolly Cali, Mama_Bear ~

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
received this in my email June 10th, the author is unknown.
I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

What a wonderful beginning for this Sabbath day!
Two back to back examples of the heart of The Finest, with Dolly's beautiful prayer
coupled with The Mayor's portion of The Daily Bread, set a joyous and serene start.

Billie, in creating this place where we honor the military and the finest things and persons in life,
you probably did not envision just how successful it has come to be.

As Dolly so sweetly illustrated its spirit:

"May your friendships give you encouragement
as your God gives you peace."

It is an oasis in a world of turmoil where we can quench our thirst, draw up a chair and rest in the shade, chat with others in the caravan, learn what is happening out there in the vast desert, share our news/frustrations/concerns/delights - and are thus melded into a true family within His Family.

We are deeply indebted to you, and *know* you are one of the very finest of His children.

In His Love,

~ LadyX

"The politicos have tried to write me off as irrelevent and a wannabe. I can assure you that they are wrong."

Ah, the mighty politicos, thinking you "irrelevant"...:)

I needn't point out to you Jesus did not speak or work through such self-important ones to spread His message.
It was plain and less than spectacular men that He selected as His disciples.

It was He who *highlighted* what God thought of corrupt individuals hijacking religion for gain when he overturned the tables of the moneychangers at the temple - -

That is precisely what you are attempting to do in your corner of the world, Rus, acting in accord with and obedient to His Plan for you!

We who know you thus hold you firmly up in prayer, such a wonderful and inspiring example of doing His will.

May He bless you and Jul abundantly, wherever He leads you.

I often wonder where He is leading us.
We do what we think He wants us to do, hold things up in Prayer.
His timing, not mine as we work toward the revelation of corruption that runs rampant in this county.

Great example of Jesus overturning the tables in the temple.
That is almost what I feel I am doing. Thank you!

Hi again Sistahs & HTML so-journers. I wanted to share the pix that I used for the background framing for my table this morning. This was a huge file. originally 2MB. I have reduced it substantially.

for use in the tread, I cropped & reduced to get the background item & then did the copy/paste to make a "platform" to use in threads. I haven't used it yet as a platform. This is a set of lily pads from the national park near where I live. I have done several of these so far. Fall leaves on the ground & in trees make up well, as do sea shells & pebbles in streams.

this is the "swatch" for background that resulted

Going to concert tonight in Akron. Brass Band patriotic concert. Party last night & dinner /movie ngiht before. too busy it seems.

That is just beautiful! How do you reduce the size of the pattern like that?

Jesus loves the little children
All the children of the world...

And He called a child to Himself and stood him in their midst,
and said, "Truly I say to you, unless you...become like children, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven.
Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me;
but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it is better for him that a heavy millstone be hung around his neck, and that he be drowned in the depth of the sea.
~~~Matthew 18:2-6~~~
God bless our Military
Protect them and keep them safe.
I just cropped it to what seemed to be the most dense section. There were many "holes" in the lily pads & I started with the best pix of about 15 I had taken. My cropping probably reduced it to 10% of original
Then I went to reduce size & made the one side 50 across. this is what resulted. I actually wanted it larger in pattern. I am still learning. Also when I did one with rocks in pond, I lightened the swatch before copy/pasting so it will be light enough for lettering to show up on it well for background. That one actually looks like lace rather than rocks.
I am using Picture It at this point for picture editing. I would like to get the pix editing Billie recommended eventaully. For some reason I cannot install Photoshop 6 on my new computer.
anyone who would like me to email the "platform" of lily pads, let me know. I have transferred about third of my aol address book to my new carrier. I haven't done most of the FR ones yet, so if you FReepmail me, resend your email & that will help me to not have to go into other computer,
You have the url for the background.
Yeah...when I get started on one I don't want to be talked to or anything. It takes a great deal of concentration for me to get it right. I need to do some more new ones.
.....and I learned to this last night and today. Now to decide how to put it to use! LOL!
I LOVE the font colorizer & use the it often in my posts (easier than the html).. cool, isn't it? Problem is I have a gazillion fonts & the only ones that will show are the ones on the "users" computers. That is why I like using the platforms.. fonts/saved & viewed as is.
Are you talking about the tables like we make by saying "platforms"? I wondered if the fonts I used were showing up for everyone.
I only have about 6 fonts that I use very often. Some of them are really hard to read or look very much like the others....I mean besides the fonts that are already on Windows.
