Miers Critics "Far Right," Says Miers's Ex-White House Officemate

TRANSCRIPT FROM TUCKER CARLSON SHOW:

Adding to the sexism, elitism, faith, and threat cards in the White House arsenal, comes the "far right" card.

Speaking in support of Harriet Miers on Tucker Carlson's MSNBC show last night was Brad Blakeman, described by Carlson as "a former deputy assistant to President Bush [who] shared an office with Harriet Miers for three years."

I'm posting the entire transcript of the Blakeman interview below. Go to the parts in bold to see the "far right" business. CARLSON: ...today one of the many questions regarding Harriet Miers has been answered, in part, anyway, in a questionnaire Miers filled out while running for the Dallas city council in 1989. She clearly indicated, or seemed to, that she's opposed to abortion, unless the mother's life was in danger.

Some conservatives are not satisfied with that, but one who appears to be, joins us now from Washington. He is Brad Blakeman. He's a former deputy assistant to President Bush. He shared an office with Harriet Miers for three years.

Mr. Blakeman, thanks for coming on. [SNIP]

BLAKEMAN: No. I think, Tucker, the president could have put forth Mother Teresa, and there were some on the far right that said, "Well, you know, she's not really religious enough for me."

CARLSON: That's totally not true. You know that that's not true.

BLAKEMAN: No, it is true. The fact of the matter is, the far right...

CARLSON: Hold on. Wait. Hold on. Slow down.

BLAKEMAN: The far right thinks that...

>>>Now we can add far right to the charges against those who oppose Miers.<<<

I believe this is the current list of labels: "Elitist, sexist, mentally challenged, cry-baby, far-right whiners".

"Bush is just likely warming up for the nomination of Gonzalez"

It wouldn't surprise me.

I never thought I'd be accused of being a part of the VRWC by a member of my own party. Since I didn't take the Bushie loyalty oath (oaf?) and seem to lack the special decoder ring the cool kids must have that makes Miers' resume seem complete, I guess I'm going to have to console myslef with the knowledge that I didn't sell my principles out because Jesus might tell Harriet to vote against Roe vs Wade....

Now we see the White House spin machine employing Clintonian tactics against the conservative base. They are employing the same old shopworn terms ("anti-feminist", "extreme", etc.) simply because Bush has nominated a third-rate crony whose lack of qualifications are not only indefensible but embarrassing. Instead of choosing one of the highly competent originalists with a proven track record and judicial philosophy he's selected a cipher who's a supporter of Gore, affirmative action and the DNC. Unfortunately he's had to drag Laura Bush into the controversy as a surrogate to mouth the feminist talking points. Does anyone seriously think that this idiotic charge is anything but ludicrous? Give us a Janice Rogers Brown or any of the other conservative and capable jurists! It's simply a manufactured issue by an administration which has been reduced to gutter politics because it can't rationally defend its betrayal of conservatives and its failure to keep its own promises to them. It's become more and more obvious that Bush is a poor excuse for a conservative. In fact a better case can be made for the fact that he's a big government, big spending liberal -- but that's another story.

" was mocking the pro miers crowd."

Shame on you. You'll harm their self-esteem and they might not grow up to be normal boys and girls.

I'm all played out with the seriousness. Everybody seems to know where everybody else stands. Now we just have to enjoy ourselves while it plays out and we wait to see if there will be a third round.

As I keep saying, look on the bright side.

We will never have a Jeb Bush presidency.

"They've been playing the "far right" card for a while now. Variants: "fringer," "reactionary," "extreme right," etc. They're trying to re-define "conservatism," in effect, as "fidelity to Bush and his Supreme Will." Insisting on fidelity to traditional conservative values and principles is, like, SO-O-O-O '80's, y'know...."

I love your posts. Can you put that in Valley Speak?

Funny how these individuals don't even know that in today's political system, the FOUNDING FATHERS would be on the "far right"!

No doubt the in todays political system Founding Fathers would be immediately jailed and tried as revolutionaries, and labeled as unappeasables wackos!

Interesting, isn't it? Instead of coming out to defend their nominee, the Bush administration instead chose to come out and attack the very people who put him in office. Even more ironic is the fact that while making accusations of elitism, the Bush administration is demonstrating elitism itself by being aghast that they be questioned on their choice.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if President Bush is at least as smart as you! What disrespect. You and the other critics of our President can't shine his shoes! Your post sounds like something right out of DU.

I don't see any flowers around the forum, especially in our hair. No, this can't be San Francisco.
