Orange juice futures hit record on Wilma fears for Fla. crop

November frozen orange juice futures were trading up 4.60 cents to $1.135 a pound early Wednesday, and touched a contract high of $1.145 a pound, on concerns that Hurricane Wilma may damage orange crops in the state of Florida.

Weather forecasters upgraded the storm to Category 5 early today and said it may be the strongest storm ever recorded in the Atlantic basin.

Wilma is tracking to the west-northwest but forecasters expect it to dogleg to the northeast and bear down on Florida at the weekend.

The Florida growers were expecting a record crop this year, too.

I knew that this would happen. A friend of mine name Clarence Meeks tipped me off to it.

So will consumers start complaining about being squeezed by orange juice prices?

Even though OJ price are up, the OJ traders panic, driving up prices and as soon as the panic subsides prices fall just as quickly.

This cat-5 Miss Wilma, contingent on how high up into the growing areas she goes will determine short term price trending.

This one bears watching.

Yup, Billy Ray learned the ropes.

Winthorpe & Valentine; "They're not just getting rich... They're getting even."

Louis: My God! The Dukes are going to corner the entire frozen orange juice market!

Ophelia: Unless somebody stops them...

Coleman: ...or beats them to it. Eggnog?

Randolph Duke: Where's Beeks? Where in the hell is Beeks?

I can't drink that stuff, it tastes like rubbing alcohol. OJ on the rocks is fine.
