beneficence \buh-NEFF-i-suhns\, noun: The practice of doing good; active goodness, kindness, or charity; bounty springing from purity and goodness
From my grandfather Verus I learned good morals and the government of my temper. From the reputation and remembrance of my father, modesty and a manly character. From my mother, piety and beneficence and abstinence. --Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

On this Day in History
1781 British General Lord Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown, effectively bringing an end to the American Revolution. Pleading illness, Cornwallis did not attend the surrender ceremony; his second-in-command, General Charles O'Hara, carried Cornwallis' sword to the American and French commanders. As the British troops marched out to surrender, the British bands played the song "The World Turned Upside Down."

Man from church goes to visit an elderly man.
Elderly gentleman offers him a cup of coffee and a donut.
The church man notices the dish is a little less than perfectly clean, he politely nibbles at the donut and drinks the coffee.
Old man says that was the cleanest hard water would get them.
They continue to talk..
When the church man gets ready to leave the Elderly gentleman calls out "Hardwater" and out lopes his old dog.

Don't these people selling their homes watch "Designed to Sell". LOL! It's the basics that draw folks in. And cracked outlet covers are not gonna cut it, nor is an uncleaned shower. Yuck is right!

Sorry to hear of the loss of your dog, Tomkow. After 17 years, A heartbreaking goodbye.
My dog is Dachshund Jack Russell mix. We think. She definitely has the Dachshund in her. :) They said, Shitzu also but I don't see that breed in her at all. I hope she lives a long life like your Lassie.

Dedicated to everyone who has loved and lost a dog.
The Power of the Dog
by Rudyard Kipling
There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
and when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware
of giving your heart to a dog to tear
Buy a pup and your money will buy
love unflinching that cannot lie
perfect passion and worship fed
by a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head
nevertheless it is hardly fair
to risk your heart for a dog to tear
When the fourteen years which Nature permits
are closing in asthma, or tumor or fits
and the vets unspoken prescription runs
to lethal chambers or loaded guns
Then you will find - - its your own affair
But....youve given your heart to a dog to tear
When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome is stilled (how still!)
When the spirit that answered your every mood
is gone - wherever it goes, for good
you will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear
Weve sorrow enough in the natural way
When it comes to burying in Christian clay
our loves are not given, but only lent,
at compound interest of cent per cent
though it is not always the case, I believe,
that the longer weve kept em, the more do we grieve
For when debts are payable right or wrong
a short time loan is as bad as a long
so why in Heaven, before we are there
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

That's special Taz. Thankfully, you were there when you were needed. Definitely, meant to be you and your dog!
Thank Goodness these shelters I visited were no kill shelters, or I would have a lot of dogs here now and be divorced. LOL!

Don't you remember the story about "Beans".
Animals are very significant parts of all of our lives.
There are dogs and cats comforting our service people over seas and dogs and cats comforting family left behind.
They are pure love and furry faces. One of the Lord's greatest gifts.

I have to remember this. We got a new dishwasher a couple years ago. It doesn't work as good as the older one. Occasionally, one will slip through, not perfect and I don't notice or my son puts it away. Next time hubby says, eeewww, this isn't clean, I'm going to call the dog in and say how come you didn't lick this clean. :)
