To: Alas Babylon!

I have an Aunt who tells me that she can't stand President Bush. When I ask her for specific reasons, she can't come up with any. She "just doesn't like him."

Then she went on about how low the President's ratings are, and I told her that I was amazed at how high they were, given the fact that people like her, who get all of their news from either newspapers (in our case, the KC "Red" Star), or the alphabet broadcast networks (she doesn't have cable), never hear a single good thing that's going on, either with the President, or the war on terror, or Iraq. When confronted with this statement, she was unable to think of a single favorable news report she's seen regarding the Bush administration, or anything it's done.

Your aunt is a prime example of why the democRATS get any votes at all.

It's the same with my boss-- who's a BIGTIME Bush/Rove/Halliburton/everything is a conspiracy person.

The funniest thing I get when I confront people like him and other libs is a 'Don't you listen to the news!!'

And I usually say "Well, yes, but obviously mine's more accurate than yours" (OK, I tone it down with my boss ;) )

I have a friend who feels the same way. "I just don't like Bush. He doesn't seem smart." When I press him for specifics, he says "Its the smirk on his face."

Gosh, MarkL, I didn't know my aunt had a nephew too. ;-) What you have said here is the exact same scenario that I had with my aunt last year. I told her she was watching too much CNN and needed to watch Fox more. She's a lovely southern lady, and rather than argue with her, we don't talk politics any more.

You know, you should tell your Aunt that President Bush's low approval ratings are higher than Clinton's at this time in his Presidency. Bush is also higher than his father, Reagan, and definitely Carter. There are 25 percent that don't like him because of his country ways and because he might wear a cowboy hat too. At this point in my life, I'm completely satisfied with our President, who had to take on tough challenges and not play politics all the time. Had the Democrats listened to him on the oil exploration in his first term, we'd be in less of a pickle than we are now. When the Social Security goes bust, don't blame him for trying to fix the problem. Younger generation better wake up and take notice.

Yep. My mother came back from Ireland last week and she had a similar story to tell. All of these women as well as nuns and sisters in Ireland hate President Bush like poison. When my mother demanded at-least 3 reasons why...they came up with a whopping ZERO.

They love Clinton so much they have a statue of him in their town square from a visit he made there as president and his biography is a big seller over there.

Not one reason they could give to hate him...they just said "we just hate him...that's reason enough".

I have in-laws who feel the same way. I ask her if she doesn't like Bush's values. She said no. It was at that point that I lost all hope in talking with her.

All my mother in law does is tell me how Halliburton is going to take her SS check and how Bush implemented the draft and gave all the NO contracts to his cronies. Of course in the Star Ledger it mentioned only Becchtel and The Shaw group. I told her the Shaw group was run by the chairman of the NO DNC. She called me a liar.

She must be my co-worker. I had Fox News up with a picture of President Bush visited Mississippi after Katrina. She, mistakingly thinking that he was in New Orleans, went on a rant about how he was "getting in the way of the rescuers". When I pointed out that he was a full state away she immediately switched gears and began to rant about how he should be visiting the Super Dome but he was too much of a coward.

I pointed out the contradiction in her stance and she snapped "Well, I don't like him. He's too smug and sure of himself.".

I said very dryly, "Usually that is called confidence by normal people." She turned bright red and flounced off.

My mother-in-law is exactly the same way. She "just doesn't trust" Bush. Yet she had no problem with John Kerry. She's a fine woman, with traditional values, yet cannot see how the Dimmicrats undercut everything she stands for. I don't understand it myself.

Even when the MSM was the only media there was, I could see the bias, and despaired. Rush was like manna from heaven for me. It was the first time I really realized there were large numbers of people who thought as I did out there.

. . . she was unable to think of a single favorable news report she's seen regarding the Bush administration, or anything it's done.

Now now, Mark. You're being grossly unfair. How dare you and the other FReepers take on the Libbers using facts in your argument.

LOL.

Most Libbers, and anti-GW'ers . . . like your aunt . . . just don't know how to deal with facts. Many, many in our nation just drink the koolaid poured by the MSM'ers and don't even want to exercise their noodle. They just go silent when given an opportunity to participate in a factual debate.

You and thousands of FReepers are making a positive difference. Keep fighting the good fight, Mark.

I'm surrounded by Hispanics in my tiny Texas-town. Yes, even some illegals. History dictates that they would all be leaning to the Democrats, right? WRONG!!.

Our local Hispanic population is probably 90% conservative. Why? I know it's wrong to generalize but I'm too damned old to change. Anyway . . . the Hispanics I've been exposed to in my 52 West-Texas, Redneck years are . . .
1. . . . strongly pro-family.
2. . . . devout Catholics.
3. . . . proud, hard working, and have latched on to the American Dream with an inspirational passion. I know of seven of the children who graduated from high school here. All had straight A's . . . four were Valedictorians of their classes . . . two were ONLY Salutatorians.
4. . . . lastly and most importantly . . . the heads of four Hispanic families on my street insist that their children view Free Republic every day and bring at least one topic to the dinner table at every meal so the family can discuss BOTH sides of the subject. IN ENGLISH!! The first language of the parents is Spanish . . . but they insist it be English for their children.

Their favorite FRee Republic discussions are articles written or posted by Mia T, MeekOneGOP, Steyn, and Grampa Dave. You made their list today, Mark. You'll be discussed at noon. My seven year-old girlfriend, Monica, called then sent me an email linking me to your post. Seven years old! And already a FReeper. Because of folks like y'all.

With their priorities, Hispanics should naturally be conservatives. They don't have a home with the liberals where everything goes. Many are starting to wake up.

Be proud, folks . . . you're making a difference. Even in the communities that have "historically" been the Liberals for the asking. Free Republic has even motivated the three illegals I know to hire attorneys to become REAL American citizens. One of them has been here for 30 years . . . but he sees the damage that illegal immigration is doing to his adopted land so he wants to set an example for his children. Yes, he's Monica's father and he refuses to let me marry her. LOL.

I'm disabled and can't join y'all in an active way . . . but I always manage to log on to FRee Republic at least once a day, regardless of how my day is going. Mainly so I can find at least one story of how my fellow FReepers are taking on our enemies. Your post did it for me today, Mark. I thank you. You and the others who refuse to give in to our enemies are the ONLY reason I manage to keep a somewhat optimistic attitude.

God, how I love my fellow FReepers.

I can do nothing but cheerlead now . . . so . . . hoooo-raaah, shish-boom-baaah. Kick another Libber for me today.

LOL. I know it doesn't rhyme . . . but, hell, I don't have the legs of a cheerleader anyway.

Good work Mark, you made her stop and think ( something the liberals/democrats are unable and not capable to do on their own ) and hopefully she will " SEE THE LIGHT " and know the truth.
My brother was riding in the car with my mom ( FDR Democrat generation ) a few weeks ago, and they were listening to the radio, and out of the blue, she said " why is everyone blaming President Bush for the hurricane Katrina, it's a natural phenomenon "

Hi Mark!! Did you ever ask her who she reads, listens to or which sites she visits online?? I refuse to tap into the MSM because I know how thwarted they are. ABC, NBC, CBS, and CNN are totally liberal. Fox is both. On line you need to guide her in the right direction, via this site, Lucianne, many good blogs and especially talk radio which will educate her in a New York minute. Ask her to listen to Rush for one month, without comment, and then have a talk with her objectively.

Nice anecdote. I'm also trying to convince some friends that they're being brainwashed...with limited success.

Agreed. My husband and I have often marvelled at how well the election went last time, considering the magnitude of negative press that needed to be overcome. Imagine what the numbers would have been like if the president had been given a fair hearing in the press.

There are some who may accuse you of exaggerating the situation, but you're not.

I honestly cannot remember seeing, hearing or reading a single positive story or analysis in the MSM on anything the Bush administration has done since the immediate aftermath of 9/11. Not one.

Without exception, EVERY story is negative.
