During the 11:00 p.m. (CST) newsbreak, Donna Fuducia reported that Karl Rove told James Dobson that 80% of the potential SCOTUS nominees on the President's list declined his offer because of they didn't want to undergo the grueling confirmation process. Perhaps this sheds new light on the reason why W chose Miers.

I have a problem with an unqualified presidential crony-who's woefully deficient in every measurable category-being on the bench.
That's what I have a problem with.

None of us-with the possible exception of George W. Bush-know who this woman is.
That's precisely the problem!

John Marshall would think: "I am glad that Adams appointed me to this job so I could keep Thomas Jefferson and his cronies from ruining the country. He remained an arch Federalist until his death.

Since Liberals have not fixed anything in over 50 years, and the GOP hasn't fixed anything because their afraid of those big bad wolves ... the Liberals, it's time for some NEW ideas that actually might solve some problems. You got nothing NOW.

Well, I'm talking about the RINOs in the US Senate. There are NO RINOs on FR. We're all battle-hardened, right-wing wacko conservatives!! Damed straight!!!! OOOORAH!!!!!
I might have tried a Dean yell, but its past my bedtime.
To: Enchante
Yes exactly.
A group of trusted advisors who helped guide Roberts through the process, fretting in email over how "cronyism" will affect their credentials and whether they should or should not support Miers, now all of it in the hands of Newsweek, which was naming a few names.
The brain trust believe cronyism to be a charge *so* serious they ran away to avoid the whole sordid ordeal. Yet 'sexism' has no merit and can be dismissed with a flip of the hand. We should shun them for caring so much about what others would say (scholars that they are).

"It's become so nasty, so partison, that no one wants to submit themselves to the nightmare Don't know how much was humor, since I only read part of the transcript, but during his interview yesterday, Scalia said he wasn't sure he would be willing to go through the confirmation process again."
My father was a councilman for over 30 years. He said to me one time, "Don't EVER call me a politician!"
He died in 2001. He would have been thoroughly disgusted with politics 4 years later.

"...is a recess appointment out of the question?"
I thought that was the main reason the President made Ambassador Bolton a recess appointment - to set a precedent.
Imagine the howls if he does it with Miss Miers...
