During the 11:00 p.m. (CST) newsbreak, Donna Fuducia reported that Karl Rove told James Dobson that 80% of the potential SCOTUS nominees on the President's list declined his offer because of they didn't want to undergo the grueling confirmation process. Perhaps this sheds new light on the reason why W chose Miers.

"My vote would have been unchanged."
And is one to infer that that vote was for President Bush?

I think it was Bush's intent to nominate HM to the second vacancy right from the beginning.
That wouldn't surprise me a bit. Thanks for the post.

I think the whole friggin' conservative movement would have loved to have seen it. So sad that we are going to be denied it. Maybe, maybe Dubya will nominate her if he gets another chance. I really hope so.

Should not the leaders of this nation be willing to suffer a few insults/accusations Okay, how about their children? The MSM actually suggested that Roberts' kid was gay. How would you like your child to be asking you what 'gay' means when his schoolmates tease him?

I just discovered that website tonight...I figured someone would ask for a link and did a google and found the site. It was not the article I was referring too-this one was much kinder to Consuelo and her tap dancing...

The Thomas nomination proved that the battle can be won no matter what the dems & rinos do.Thomas and Miers are similar nominees.

Perhaps some of you all don't realize how ugly this is to the people involved.
Well, let me tell you about my uncle Claude. He was a medic in the 82nd Airborne who jumped out of a perfectly good airplane a day or so before D-day behind enemy lines. He had been told that the casualty rates for his unit would be 80% and even more for medics (he had nothing but a service revolver).
Can you imagine what it took for him to jump out of that plane? But, jump he did. Because it was his duty. And the odds were sadly against him. He died.
Many times in my life I have thought that I had come up against some tremendous obstacle and have thought to myself "how does this compare to what Claude had to do?" And of course every time I felt ashamed that I had thought that what I had to endure was such a big deal.
Many people are called to serve our country in many different ways. I will never be asked to jump out of an airplane to plummet to certain death. But if I am ever asked to go before a Senate committee and have my every flaw microscopically examined, I will not shirk.
But I sure hope that we're not so desperate as to call on me. .

I don't think this is true. As my husband says, if you've got a chance at the top job, you should take a swing at it. Your husband was not offered the job.
PukinDog did report this already.
It rings true.

Saad and Myers are out. Even some Republican Senators said they would have voted against them, and they were withdrawn after the deal with the Gang of 14.

... namely I claim that Bush cut the list to just the women. I think that can be safely admitted. And it's obvious too, there can be teo cuts of 80% each. Start with 20 men and 5 women, cut the men and it is an 80% cut. Then, of the 5 women, 3 decline, 1 is disqualified.
It seems a bit contrived, but could be coincidental. And others have noted that ROberts was the O'Connor replacement to begin with.

RINO has become a very overused acronym.
I have been called a RINO more times than I can count since I came down on the side of supporting the Miers nomination. Hell I was on this site when JimRob was a one man army behind the scenes and everyone thought it was called "whitewater file" and I get called a RINO?
Ya know what, I think the Miers nomination is a good nomination. I'm not a fly by night conservative. I'm not a RINO and I'm getting tired of people using the word in the same fashion that liberals use the word "racist"..meaning when they have run out of arguments.
To: Jim Robinson
If the short list was only five women, and one of them was Miers, that in itself is a failure of this White House staff. Do they really expect us to believe there were only four other women deserving of consideration? I can name six or seven right off the top of my head, especially if 60-year-old women are in the running.
