They're all out there rushing to defend her and talk about how bad it is that Conservatives are lanbasting her and to me it seems like that's cutting off any avenue the Rats have for badmouthing her once she gets before the Judicial Comittee.

Don't worry they will find a way I might be wrong but I thought Leahy was already making noises that he might not support her.

I fully agree. Here 's a good read for those who doubt Bush's choice.

As with pretty much everyone on the center-right, my initial reaction to the Miers appointment was anger, disbelief, and opposition. I feared, and many feared, that Miers was another Souter--and without the credentials to match. But I decided to do some research on Miers before I vented in my blog. After looking at the evidence, I came to two conclusions: 1) she's qualified; 2) she's very conservative.

- Interesting analysis by President Aristotle on Why W picked Miers.

Strikes me they are peeved that one of their cronies did not get nominated.

That is a short-sighted response many supporters give. Those opposed to the nominee are peeved because Bush is appointing an 'unknown quantity' when there are many 'known quantities' who could have been confirmed. After all, the Pubbies do have the votes; Bush just doesn't seem to want the fight. Who recommended Miers anyway? That should be enough of clue that Miers is a compromise candidate to avoid a big battle.

Not really. If Brownback comes out against Miers, the pundits say that this will empower a lot of disgusted Republican Senators to speak their minds.

Bird flu may turn out to be something important, but I sure get the impression the news networks are stretching to find something they can milk for ratings. More talk about hundreds of thousands of Americans at risk when my guess is USA reaction would be quick and effective in stopping anything that bad from happening. It's like the tens of thousands of dead from Katrina or the 50,000 at risk during 9/11. The media seems to inflate figures all the time.

But on Friday, Gingrich told Sean Hannity (IIRC) that because she had no paper trail, Ms. Miers would have a heavy burden to prove at her hearing that she had the right constitutional approach. He said that far more would be required of her than Judge Roberts for that very reason. She could not rest on her laurels, because she has none. The familiar dodge the question "Ginsberg" approach would be unacceptable with Miers.

You think Miers is a compromise candidate? Patrick - Ruffini says Harry Reid is hosed in public.

Arlen Specter is such a clown. Him and leaky openly thinking of ways to 'get Myers'.

Ole' Stephy is actually trying to run the hearings, demanding that Karl Rove be made to testify to see what she told Myers, yadda' yadda' yadda'

Listening to MTP, apparently the only thing of importance that the Supreme Court has to address is abortion. Will she overturn it, will she overturn it with Roberts help, do we need yet another person on the Court before that can happen. I always thought that they heard a miriad of issues. Abortion truly is the sacrament of the left.

The list goes on and on. From the beginning of Bush's presidency, when the plane went down in China, the media has misdiagnosed his abilities. Remember Jesse Jackson wanting to to free the flight crew? Then, as the media was ginning up Jackson, Bush resolved it. Ever since then, the media and pundits have gotten wrong more often than right.

Why do you have to have a known quantity all that is necessary as far as I see it is that the person is qualified and will do the job according to how the person that appointed them wants them to.

As the President has known her for many years then why should there be any doubt either of the 2 above criteria have not been met.

Strikes me that a lot of people want a fight for the sake of a fight not to get the best person for the job.

Also it is ludicrous for the press etc to say they do not know her she has been in the White House for 5 years and in Government in Texas before that plus in a large practice prior to that. The press make themselves look foolish to say they do not know her if they do not then are they fit to be journalists as they obviously are not capable of doing research.
