October 5, 2005 -- THE producer at the center of last year's "Memogate" scandal at CBS News says she was derailed by a vast right-wing conspiracy.
The producer, Mary Mapes, is one of four CBS staffers fired last January in the wake of the scandal.
She is convinced she was the victim of a group of loosely associated Internet bloggers "with a harsh political bent" who pounced on CBS News minutes after the airing of the now-infamous Texas Air National Guard story on "60 Minutes 2" in September 2004...
"Within a few minutes, I was online visiting Websites I had never heard of before: Free Republic, Little Green Footballs, Power Line," writes Mapes...
"They were hard-core, politically angry, hyperconservative sites loaded with vitriol about Dan Rather and CBS."
"This was something else, something new and fundamentally frightening," Mapes writes. "I had never seen this kind of response to any story.
"It dawned on me that I was present at the birth of a political jihad."

Tanker has experience with REAL documents from that era I believe. Well, I didn't join the USAF until 1981, but the formats were there same (or very close) until 1992 when we radically changed our memo formats. The early 70's era memos that CBS tried to pass off were in the new 90's format.

Let's not go overboard here. Geez you would think we were a Nazi site or something the way she describes it. She must me mad that we eat her up all the time when she spews her inaccurate, hate-filled, emotional rants.

Mizz Mapes, about that "harsh political bent" you talk about... we have no patience with liars. Any harshness you sense is because you tried to pass a lie off as truth.
"Within a few minutes, I was online visiting Websites I had never heard of before: Free Republic, Little Green Footballs, Power Line," writes Mapes...
Mizz Mapes, "within a few minutes" of what? If you'd never heard of FR, how and why did you all-of-a-sudden find your way here, "within a few minutes?" Was it because you absolutely knew your story was fabricated, and you were watching the web so closely, to see if anyone would catch your fake documents?
"They were hard-core, politically angry, hyperconservative sites loaded with vitriol about Dan Rather and CBS."
Like I said before, we really dislike liars, especially when those liars hold positions of such power as Dan Rather and CBS News do did.
"This was something else, something new and fundamentally frightening," Mapes writes. "I had never seen this kind of response to any story.
Cry me a river.
"It dawned on me that I was present at the birth of a political jihad."
When you declared war on the truth, the pajamahadeen mobilized. The arrogance of you and your pals at CBS News caused your tumble, not some (boogity-boogity-boo!) right-wingers.

I think there is a culture in journalism that they
own the "truth." Notice that I put the word "truth" in quotes like the good little leftists do so often.
People like Mapes and Rather feel they they, and their intelligentsia friends, own the channel to the public, own the publics' ear, and by extension, own the public mind.
For others to be operating independent of the media filter is blasphemy of the worst kind to their religious hierarchy.
I use the term "religious" intentionally as they worship themselves, they iconize each other and they wish for everyone to buy into their elevation to little gods.

She was derailed when the TRUTH came out; not some right-wing conspiracy. Are liberals really this stupid?

"It dawned on me that I was present at the birth of a political jihad."Mary, sweetheart, you missed the birth by at least 10 years. In fact it began back in the '80's with Rush Limbaugh but the pajamahadeen have been around a lot longer then memogate. Sorry you're just getting the news. What's the matter? Don't tell me you are trying to stay current by listening to the MSM?
Oh Mary, that's so...quaint

Accountability sucks, eh Mary? This is an object lesson in what a narcissist looks like in real life. She just can't seem to wrap her mind around the fact that SHE is the badguy in this little byplay.
