Pro-life born again Christian from Texas. This is precisely what America need's on the Supreme Court.

Really? If this is all so great, why then are the Texan borders chaotic and lawless? Or is it just religion that needs attention?

Well, praaaaaaaise the Lawd. This certainly puts all of MY worries to rest.
What's that? Being a born-again Christian isn't a qualification for the Supreme Court?
Yeah. Seems that being a vapid smartass fails the test, too. Missed the short list, did you? If you are too slow to catch the connection, there is a link between belief in transcendent moral principles and fidelity to a document that many believe enshrines those moral principles when it comes to the body politic. Just because some fundamentalist howler might miss that connection does not make his inability to see it a cover for your inability to see it. Or maybe you just wanted a good yawlp at the stupid religionists....... Yeah right, you were awesome.

the underlying thought is that the FRAMERS' mindset had a belief in a deity, a God, if you will. Such belief has not been evident in our Courts for at least a generation or two. When God got kicked out of our schools and the public forum, the laws started to change in a direction those FRAMERS could not have imagined. Perhaps by aligning with their belief in the deity, Ms. Miers' decisions will reflect that original intent.

Don't know for sure on men and women, but the average life span in the US is 77 years, and IIRC the gender difference is about 6 years. However, the average life span for those who live to age 65 is now 82, again skewed higher for women.

LOL, you people need to get your message straight.

First aunt harriet was to the right of bork on the 2nd amendment, which makes here a good pick and bork not good, and now clarence thomas was to the left of bork, which makes bork the good pick and clarence thomas the bad one.

So bork is both the standard bearer for good and bad comparisons, the meaning of which changes based on the conclusion you want people to draw.

And the point, again, is that in this case, there's not much to draw on for aunt harriet except secondhand statements of what she believes.

And when there is direct evidence that condems her, we're supposed to ignore that.

The situational stances of this debate are making my head spin. I thought those kind of things went out with the clinton administration? Who knows.

Makes sense. Once you become a Christian you gain discernment (the realization of how stupid liberalism is).

Well, this is getting interesting.

I have been one of her skeptics the last few days. I still am.

If she says she is truly a Sister in Christ, then she will not be "Sandra Day O'Connor - The Sequel." I truly believe that.

The reason I believe that is because people who have the Holy Spirit in them are changed, and are guided by God Himself.

That is what I believe, and what millions of Christians believe.

Like I said, this is getting interesting.

That's quite a stretch.

It would have been simpler, and much more reliable to simply nominate someone with a proven track record of doing just that.

There's plenty of people like that around. The main reason for miers over someone like Janice Rogers Brown is that she's a stealth candidate.

FB, your doing a fine job of holding your own on this thread....in a week or so more info will be available. No reason for any of us, pro or con, to go off the deep end yet.

It was a husband and kids.

Indeed. I've often suspected that one of the reasons Scalia is so unflinchingly conservative is that he has a wife and children. Marriage and fatherhood (or motherhood) tend to have that effect on most people. You don't have to be married and have children to understand the deep-felt needs and vulnerabilities of the traditional family, but it sure does help.

I would have thought that someone who has dedicated their life to preserving the original intent of the constitution is precisely what we need on the supreme court . . .

It is. Christians tend to think along the lines that, when a thing is authored, it means what it says. They're not into word games, moral relativism, and the like. At the same time, Christians understand the Consitution is a human document governing people of all faiths, and so wish to see it applied as it was intended.

If this nominee is intent upon turning the USA into a theocracy she is not fit for the office. I'm sure a good many whiny, hand-wringing ninnies would believe just that.

>Miers once owned a .45-caliber revolver, a gift from a brother who was worried about her safety when she lived alone in Dallas, says Judge Nathan Hecht of the Texas Supreme Court, who has known Miers for 30 years and has dated her.

It's a sad commentary when such a simple thing as owning a gun is newsworthy.......................

If you remember, the divide was caused by the party, not by the voters.

When GHWB acted like a RINO, he gave us clinton.

When ford was a RINO, he gave us carter.

The major defeats of republicans in the recent past have pretty much centered on the party abandoning its base. The party going RINO is the cause, republicans getting demotivated and democrats winning is the result.

You want to ensure party unity? Demand accountability from the leaders of the party. Don't attack the members of the core, conservative base who try to hold the feet of party leaders to the fire. They are the ones trying to hold things together.
