Harriet Miers
You never like my posts. It doesn't really matter to me.
They want instant gratification, and their own way about everything........
"I'm talking about now. What would you do?"
I'd nominate a known conservative. There are dozens of them, and every freeper has a favorite. Personally I prefer the heavy duty intellects, people like Michael McConnell. They have shown that they have the intellectual fire power to change the court for generations. They are more, much more than just a reliable vote.
I'd put up a real conservative and let Armageddon begin.
Then I'd tell the boys over at the RNC to send out 500 million pieces of direct mail saying, "The Democrats are at it again! Their unconstutional filibuster of _____[insert name] is hurting America!"
I'd do rally after rally nationwide and I'd drag the entire thing out as long as possible until I knew we had the votes to beat the filibuster, or until it just coldn't go on any more.
Then....I'd nominate Janice Rogers Brown.
Then I'd nominate Priscilla Owen.
Then I'd nominate Edith JOnes.
If they managed to sustain all of those filibuster, then to really piss them off (assming he is still alive) I'd nominate Robert Bork. Just out of spite.
Don't kid yourself. 25% of the population doesn't care, another 25% isn't paying attention. The other half of us is who cares about this, with about 15% of that 50% being 'independent', without a dog in the fight. If all they see is recalcitrance on the part of the Dems over a nominee who doesn't seem, to the independent voters, threatening to the Dems in any appreciable way, how do you think those voters will react come the next round of Congressional elections, especially when the Dems intransigence can be shown in TV commercials?
Yeah, but that one was particularly stupid even by your standards.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg had tons of experience.
So what's more important - experience, or mindset?
"It was probably Laura, who lets not forget is ProAbortion, who pushed this selection."
How old is Laura? WEre they at SMU at the same time????
Didn't RR put Sandra D. O'Connor in? She wasn't too conservative, wasn't she? Also, GHWB put in Clarence Thomas, didn't he? And as I recall, he was pretty conservative, wasn't he? So there!
GWB has put in a number of conservatives in as judges, only recently getting J.Roberts in there. So, don't you think he's had a generally good record getting conservatives in for judges? I do! Don't you remember he did say he would get judges who rule according to the constitution? And yes, he did say he would get conservatives in there, and he has, hasn't he?
no, you don't get it. Earle INDICATED Delay..
You still think it was really stupid??
"FREEPers were members of a group called "Free Republic", Blainsworth said, "They espoused limited government and self-worth, but often, if an unknown member was introduced into their area of concern, they would turn into the most ravenous flesh-eaters you ever saw."
While Blainsworth couldn't pinpoint the exact event that preceded the art discovered on an ancient "Dell" computer hard drive discovered in the shores off Utah, he was able to give reporters a sense of what would set "FREEPers" off. "Evidence indicates that around a thousand years ago, a government official named Myers was proposed to be put in charge of a court--at least that is the evidence we've found so far. Many FREEPers, because this "Myers" wasn't a member of their inner circle, immediately began a vicious attack upon a government executive--known then as a "President", and even upon each other. There is some scant evidence the cannibalism was rhetorical and metaphorical, but we're looking into the possibility some FREEPers actually consumed the heart and flesh of others who wanted to join."
No, I was thinking mad as in "Barking Moonbat" mad.
Glad to hear back from you... I was a little afraid they got to you for discovering their wicked plot.
Well, if you put it THAT way, I stand humbled...
Any time you or President Bush wants to go to the dirt I am ready.
Is ohioWfan your real name?
Eaker is my real name. Tom Eaker.
Now go back to your Barbi dolls.
Or you might try to refute what I have posted.
You cannot do that both because it is true and you are not bright.
You're right... there's some judges in Florida with more... What was the guy's name.... Greer? How about him? He has experience.
most assuredly it was elvis...
When has any Republican showed that kind of willingness to fight? It's not going to happen. If you were the President, you would have to face that fact. By the way, what do you know about this nominee that suggests she doesn't have a good conservative philosophy? I will wait to learn. If she does not have a conservative philosophy, then I'll protest.
That's part of it. Unlike the one-dimensional politicians of the past, President Bush and adviser Rove are political poker masters of "framing."
Which is to say that they set up high-profile decisions in such a way that they win NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS. In this case, Miers being rejected by the Senate will set up either a Janice Rogers Brown SCOTUS nomination or a nuking of the Senate's filibuster rule, depending on how she is rejected.
...and if she isn't rejected, then a pro-life, mission-sponsoring, evangelical Christian fundamentalist lands on the life-long SCOTUS bench.
Win. Win.
Professional politics at this level haven't been witnessed since Scoop Jackson...and no doubt the intellectualism being played out here will frustrate, annoy, and drive insane those who oppose GWB from both the far Left (e.g. Senator Reid who recommended Miers in the first place) as well as the far Right (e.g. the Reform Party Buchanonites).
I expect all of the usual suspects to soon start whining about how Miers "doesn't have a paper trail" (translation: we can't stereotype and demagogue her beliefs based on a few out-of-context rulings), etc.
Watching the whining and complaints from everyone who has been outflanked is going to be a hoot!
"there are going to be a LOT of unhappy people"
yeah count me as 1
