You are missing the reason Miers gave for "being against" the resolution. The reason wasn't because of it's contents. The reason was that she wanted the entire ABA membership to have a vote, instead of just the ABA leadership.

Like advocating direct vote for President, instead of choosing a President by a vote of Congress. It says nothing about which candidate one supports.

The ABA was impatient to get a position on it's books. Chances are the position taken by a majority of ABA members would be pro-choice.

If you think her age is an important issue, consider this:

It is quite possible for a 60 year old to serve for 20-25 years on the bench. You can accomplish a lot in 20-25 years.

However, if she turns out to be a bad addition, she does have a limited bench life, so to speak.

Is it really desirable to appoint someone 40-50 to a position they will hold for life with virtually no accountability? If absolute power corrupts absolutely, sounds like a recipe for disaster!

Which is better for you -- a carton of milk or a twinkie? Limited shelf life is often a good thing! ;-)

I can't tell you how many times career women have pulled me aside and asked me what I'm going to do about my education after I get married.

Isn't that just "messed up!?" The older I get, the more I realize that N.O.W. et al wanted all women to be just like them.

just someone who raised kids and personally demonstrated she is pro-family and pro-life.

I suppose you're speaking as someone who has *done* all that?

If so, you're not a very good example of what that can produce in a person.

I'm pissed that he took a dump on something so important.

Do we have a potty fixation, here?

Nothing worth commenting on in that post......

I took his picture off the wall in my office a few months ago.

It's not her AGE that concerns faithincowboys; she's doing her damnedest to insinuate she's a lesbian.

Yeah, he really pushed the bounds. He picked someone who looks like the crypt creepers older, unmarried sister. She's 60 and not exactly a youthful 60, maybe if Bush is really lucky, Hillary will have the occassion to name her replacement in the years 2009- 2017.

Since when do opinion polls determine moral standards?

They don't....but your condemning Laura who probably never watched the show and I'm pointing out that people in here watch, support, and promote the show by watching. So you are criticizing the wrong people. I hate all those shows...and think anyone who 'watches' them is promoting immoral principles. YOU AGREE??

Laura Bush's "desperate housewives" jokes at a press club dinner in Washington several months ago and her daughters' recent attendance at a homosexual "marriage" ceremony speak clearly as to the disregard of Biblical morality and traditional values on the part of the females of the Bush family.

The perpetual-wedgie crowd is finally heard from.

If that someone is a justice in the mold of Scalia, Thomas or Rehnquist, you betcha.

Yes, although it's not entirely their fault. Part of the problem is through the Internet and places like freerepublic we have all been thinking about and making predictions about this appointment for days, or weeks. People get anchored to their viewpoint and then are disappointed when their anchor is pulled out from under them.

GWB knows what happened to his father, he is not about to make the same mistake. If he wants to appoint someone that he knows will vote along the lines of his own thinking, it's best to pick a trusted long time friend over an experienced Judge.

Or Luttig? I don't know a lot about him but this woman doesn't sound like the best choice.

She might not be the best choice to run a bowling league, let alone receive a lifetime seat on SCOTUS.
