Most football players seem pretty conservative. Anything would be better in PA than Rendell from what I hear.

You don't really listen to Rush Limbaugh like your homepage says, do you?

Otherwise you wouldn't have posted what you just did.

Oh for crying out loud. This damn well better not be true.

Oh, it's true.

It's my understanding that Laura is NOT pro-life. I would like to be wrong, and if you have a link or two, I'd love to see it.

However, I am neither "out of line" nor unBiblical to imply that a pro-choice woman might be upset with her husband for appointing a pro-lifer.

Remember the day Bush picked Cheney? This place was worse than it is today. :-)

Yeah, and don't forget Thomas was like 45 when Bush Senior nominated him. God Dubya fumbled this badly.

Ya, you have so many picks. Ranging from Liberal to Conservative. I know where I would be on those choices.

Actually those choices these days are Liberal and "not as" Liberal.

I wasn't comparing Gore to Reagan. I was pointing out how very possible and realistic it is for one's politics to change over time.

And if you insult me again, I'll hit the abuse button.

"we have to pre-judge to some extent"

Sure we do....but GWB didn't chose her in a vaccuum! I tend to give him some credit for putting some thought into this choice. Why? Because he has a track record of choosing well. This is an important matter....a lifetime appointment.....is it OK if we gather the facts about her, look at them with some perspective and then decide?

Fox News: A lot of conservatives are expressing concerns about this nominee.

I just don't understand this pick. Why would he nominate a 60-year old, when he has the chance to shape the court for 30-40 years as may very well be the case with Roberts?

Like many on this board, I was hoping for JRB and her proven conservative track record. Guess I can sit down and shut up now.

It's not a fake-out. That would be disastrous to fold on a nominee unless the Dems destroyed themselves to block her.

At least we can tell one good thing from her record- she was never a judge!
And, seriously, anyone nominated who wasn't a judge wouldn't have much of a record.

"The same liberties that ensure a free society make the innocent vulnerable to those who pervert rights and privileges and commit senseless and cruel acts. Those precious liberties include free speech, freedom to assemble, freedom of religion, access to public places, the right to bear arms and freedom from constant surveillance. They also include freedom from restraints until you are accused, found guilty and sentenced in a court of law and appeal rights are exhausted. We are not willing to sacrifice these rights because of the acts of maniacs. "
"...success in fighting crime in our nation is more than treating symptoms. We will only be successful in solving our massive crime problems when we attack the root causes. We all can be active in some way to address the social issues that foster criminal behavior, such as lack of self-esteem or hope, poverty, lack of health care -- particularly mental health care -- lack of education and family dysfunction. "

Gotta admit I haven't a handle on this one...

Please elaborate, in terms that are publicly acceptable, why being either 60 or single disqualifies her in any way?

(That means without foul assumptions on your part).

"Let's not forget this is the woman for, for all intents and purposes, has been vetting all of Bush's judicial appointees.
Good point. I was just questioning the conclusion that she is "pro-life" based only on the postion she took relating to the ABA vote on the issue - which was "the entire membership of the ABA should vote on this." That is, she expressed preference for neither side, but advocated that whatever position was taken would be stronger if all the members had direct voice."

Sorry, folks, but vetting of nominees isn't done by the White House Counsel. There is a large team of folks who do this, and it is not that office.

"I've just looked her up on Open Secrets and she has never donated to anyone but Republicans."

I love it. All the jerks and idiots can threaten, make unsubstantiated smears, cry and wail and make all sorts of totally meaningless comments.

TIN FOIL to the rescue.

Sheeesh...wait until we KNOW something.
