If she was a Dem in the 1980s, but then supported Repubs later, it indicates she is not on the same philosphical plane as Reagan type Republicans and her Republicanism runs as deep as the Bushes which isn't very deep at all. Lots of converts feel stronger than the old "born conservative" types. If she's a convert, she might be a winner. Reagan was a convert - a former labor organizer.

Reagan's missteps were few and not catastrophic, and not in the context of overwhelming popular support to restrain an imperial judiciary.

Is there an article in here someplace that confirms this headline?
If so, is it possible to bring it to the top?

It is more important that she is conservative than an intellectual.Still, it would be *nice* to have both.

Ups and downs. Today's political climate is ups and downs.
Blunt was a good thing. Roberts I THINK will turn out OK. Pence is gaining influence in the House. Blackwell's doing well in the OH Gov polls. There are a lot of small victories that have been made.

I'm mulling over writing and calling Feingold and Kohl to ask them to vote against her.
To: safisoft
Harry Reid supports her, and suggested she would be acceptible. In other words, she is NOT a Scalia or Thomas. BS.

And stay on the subject of the thread. The subject is Bush's crappy, crony choice of a Supreme Court Justice for whom, when objections are raised, you stand in support.

"Bush blew this one "
Maybe not.
You said "We're told that 'ANGRY WHITE MEN' are responsible for the 94, 2000, '02 and '4 wins"
Perhaps that's just it.
The base will get excited again about someone who RUNS TO THE RIGHT OF PRESIDENT BUSH'S RECORD.
Geore Allen....Newt Gingrich..(insert Righty here).
Just a thought...you bring up some good points, man.

So far the condemnations for the pick are that she supported a pro-life Al Gore in '88 and she must be a lesbian if she's not married. Oh, and she worked for a Democrat once.

O'Connor was nominated in 1981....not RWR's second term.
To: chgomac
These instant tidbits about her contributions and experience are causing too much pre-judging. I'm inclined to wait and see. That's the problem, we have to pre-judge to some extent. Once she is in (if it turns out we have a Souter) it is too late. A younger person with a paper trail would have been my preference.

You're right. I'll back Bush -- he's one of us. See my post 1,241. Thanks - it was just a blow to hear she had given money to Gore...
