Obviously, Harriet Myers is a solid conservative in the mold of Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas. ~sarcasm off~

She just needs to see Hillary's beauty consultant. Look at the change in her appearance! Unfortunately it hasn't changed anything important.

This country desperately needs a conservative party. As we speak, the Republicans and Democrats are in the process of building a strong third party platform.

That's a dumb idea. A pick like this will get both Dems and conservatives against her (look at how many Freepers aren't happy with this pick already), and Bush will have practically zero support for the next nominee. If he wanted to pick a "dummy" nominee, then it should have been someone only Dems would be against.

The White House whimped out and implemented its own form of affirmative action by taking care of its own before sending up the best this nation has to offer.
I am so f'ing outraged.

Imagine...Blackwell wins in OH and Swann in PA...then in 2012 or 2016 they are running mates for the Presidency...a Black Pres and VP...and they're Republicans...talk about pissing off the left! That's assuming Swann is a true conservative, which he seems to be. I know Blackwell is.

Oops...Sorry!
I read it again and it looks like you were responding to a quote from a"Blogger". The quote was not in italics and that threw me off. I suppose it is Blogger that needs to see Gore's record in posy #1322.

Cindy_cin, along with all knee jerkers on this site, who are freaking out.
No, we freaked out with Kelo. This only confirms our worse fears - we elected hack instead of a leader who could have attempted to undo 40 years of judicial activism. Bush's attempts, if that, have been more than weak. My guess is that he is not even attempting. His famous Scalia/Thomas quote probably came from a focus group where those were mentioned as good buzz words to excite conservatives and get them to the polls. Never again.

I'm with you on JRB, she was my favorite. But I did notice this in the Washington Post article:
Miers was active in a 1992 battle in the American Bar Association, arguing vehemently but unsuccessfully against a resolution supportive of abortion rights.
Yet the Dems like her? What am I missing?

Showing again that Bush is not threatened by bright women. And she IS as sharp as a tack. Great lawyer. However IS she a conservative? Don't know.

Even if that's all true... she is more qualified to be an undersecrary for the Department of Knitting than an associate justice of the SCOTUS.
I'm sure she's a lovely woman, but she's till too old and too blah.

Didn't say Bush 41. Said a RINO. Bush 41 wasn't my favorite in the Reps then, but he was certainly better than Gore/Bentzen. My statement was a hypothetical. I would vote for any conservative Democrat over a pro-choice RINO. I would not vote for a Giuliana, Rice, or other pro-choice Republican.

---"You clearly don't get it. Giuliani is the best shot at beating Hillary, as noted in numerous polls."---
Actually McCain is, according to the polls I've read.
---"I know many who are disappointed, and not just with this pick but a variety of issues. However, very few of them are wrist-slashing "I'm quitting the GOP!(Again!)" perennial moaners."---
That should tell you why this is such a bad pick at a bad time. Schumer just said that she is a "step in the right direction in replacing O'Connor." That's also disheartening.
As far as being a one-issue voter, not everyone is. But I ask you, if the Supreme Court ruled tomorrow (5-4 we'll say)that it was absolutely against the law to own a firearm of any kind for any reason, would you be enthused about a new nominee that had no paper trail on gun issues and supported Dukakis/Benson in 1988?
Does that make you a one-issue voter?
It's about more than abortion, yes. But it has much to do with abortion as well. If the GOP misses their opportunities to try to overturn Roe when they can, then people like me (and many other) to whom the issue is primary have little reason to give our time and effort to help the GOP retain power.
And I wouldn't ridicule you for some wrist-slashing if the aforementioned gun issue caused you to retire your support of the GOP.
Regardless, in the absence of anything new that we don't know, I am out for 2006 and 2008. I didn't support this President for Bankruptcy Reform and Credit Card reform.

I'm not saying it's unacceptable, i'm just saying it's not optimal. Bush could've done WAY better. I'm pissed that he took a dump on something so important.
To: lawdude
Sheeesh...wait until we KNOW something. Yeah. I think we should wait until she's on the court before we pass judgment. I don't think it's prudent to know anything about her.
To: Zechariah_8_13
What is out of line is to post on a public forum that she would put her husband on the couch for picking a pro-life nominee when she herself has said that she is pro-life, and you haven't bothered to find that out.
It is VERY unbiblical to have done so. And it was stupid. Roberts is pro-life. The PRESIDENT is pro-life. Do you suppose he spends every night on the couch?
I will look for the link. But she said it, and you have to call her a liar if you don't believe it (don't worry........serial bashers on FR did just that when she said it).
