No, we freaked out with Kelo. This only confirms our worse fears - we elected hack instead of a leader who could have attempted to undo 40 years of judicial activism. Bush's attempts, if that, have been more than weak. My guess is that he is not even attempting. His famous Scalia/Thomas quote probably came from a focus group where those were mentioned as good buzz words to excite conservatives and get them to the polls. Never again.

I'm with you on JRB, she was my favorite. But I did notice this in the Washington Post article:

Didn't say Bush 41. Said a RINO. Bush 41 wasn't my favorite in the Reps then, but he was certainly better than Gore/Bentzen. My statement was a hypothetical. I would vote for any conservative Democrat over a pro-choice RINO. I would not vote for a Giuliana, Rice, or other pro-choice Republican.

That should tell you why this is such a bad pick at a bad time. Schumer just said that she is a "step in the right direction in replacing O'Connor." That's also disheartening.

As far as being a one-issue voter, not everyone is. But I ask you, if the Supreme Court ruled tomorrow (5-4 we'll say)that it was absolutely against the law to own a firearm of any kind for any reason, would you be enthused about a new nominee that had no paper trail on gun issues and supported Dukakis/Benson in 1988?

It's about more than abortion, yes. But it has much to do with abortion as well. If the GOP misses their opportunities to try to overturn Roe when they can, then people like me (and many other) to whom the issue is primary have little reason to give our time and effort to help the GOP retain power.

And I wouldn't ridicule you for some wrist-slashing if the aforementioned gun issue caused you to retire your support of the GOP.

Regardless, in the absence of anything new that we don't know, I am out for 2006 and 2008. I didn't support this President for Bankruptcy Reform and Credit Card reform.

What is out of line is to post on a public forum that she would put her husband on the couch for picking a pro-life nominee when she herself has said that she is pro-life, and you haven't bothered to find that out.

It is VERY unbiblical to have done so. And it was stupid. Roberts is pro-life. The PRESIDENT is pro-life. Do you suppose he spends every night on the couch?
