Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005 1:04 p.m. EDT NY'ers Back Rudy Over Hillary for Prez

New York State voters would back former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani for president over home state senator and Democratic Party favorite, Hillary Clinton, according to a Marist College poll released Friday.

Forty-nine percent of New Yorkers say Rudy should run for the White House, while only 40 percent want Hillary Clinton do the same.

While more than two-thirds of Empire State Republicans [67 percent] want Rudy to seek the Oval Office, just 54 percent of Democrats [52 percent] say Hillary should run.

What's more, despite two years worth of media coverage touting her White House bid, an astonishing 36 percent Democrats in that bluest of blue states say Hillary should shelve her presidential ambitions for 2008.

Only 28 percent of Republicans turn thumbs down on President Rudy.

The news is even worse for Mrs. Clinton among those not affiliated with either party - a segment that usually constitutes the all-important "swing-vote" in national elections.

While 51 percent of Independents back Rudy for president, just 38 percent want to see Hillary back in the White House.

A full 57 percent of New York Independents say they oppose a presidential bid by Hillary.

Marist surveyed 707 registered voters in New York on September 26th and 27th. The poll has a margin of error of +/- 4 percent.

"You are under the mistaken impression that every Republican is a one-issue voter. They're not."

I would never vote for Rudy because of his views on abortion and the Second Amendment, as well as his personal morality. And I haven't even heard his platform yet.

It's more than "one issue." He's a social liberal who happens to be tough on crime. That does not make a conservative.

This poll placing Rudy over Hillary is a big victory in our drive to stamp out liberalism. Watch for the liberal bias media not to report it.

The media would like nothing more than Rudy on the ticket. The stuff that comes tumbling out of his closet would sell a million newspapers and ten million magazines.

It's kind of hard to envision a revelation that hasn't already been plastered across the front page of the Daily News, Post, Village Voice, or Observer.

And NY gave California Boxer and Grey Davis. Lets hope there is more of a choice than Giuliani or Clinton.

No it isn't. Rudy was sinking prior to 9/11. There was "blood in the water" and no doubt people were about to talk. Then, 9/11 happened and Rudy handled himself well. Now, if he runs for President, all bets are off and people will begin talking again. Much of what comes out may be a yawn for New Yorkers, but outside of NYC it'll seem shocking.

No, it would be New York City politics played as gleeful blood sport.

This is the way it starts -- twice divorced Mayor with one ex-wife his second cousin and the other a supporting actress in Vagina Monologues and The People Versus Larry Flynt.

After that it'll get nasty.

"The People Vs. Larry Flynt?" Is that the flick that Courtney Love was in? I missed that one.

I'm sure Rudy's morale standards exceed Hillary Rodham-Rodham's.

For those who are insisting that Rudy be pro-life in order to be the GOP nominee, consider:

He would appoint law and order judges, who tend to skew anti-abortion.

And Roe may not even be a factor for re-consideration in the Roberts Court. Especially is Bush fills the O'Connor seat AND the John Paul Stevens seat before '08.

Rudy will waltz through the southern primaries. He's got IOU's all over Dixie from the 02 and 04 election cycles, and will collect even more in the 06 cycle.

Yes, Rudy's ex-wife played -- get this! -- Jimmy Carter's sister. Courtney Love wasn't that good.

It actually wasn't a bad movie, Ed Norton was just outstanding. Yet, I don't think it would go over too well among some voters.

Courtney Love was probably cast in the flick as more-or-less a shock value to sell tickets. Shouldn't hurt Rudy, those are the liberals type of people. The sit around trying to condone immorality.

Actually the story of how Love was cast is pretty interesting. The movie was directed by Milos Forman who is buddies with former Czech Republic President, Václav Havel. Apparently Havel was a fan of Cobain/Nirvana and suggested Love to Forman.

I will assure you that she was not cast for her acting ability.

I saw her in a Alex Cox movie, Straight to Hell. She was horrible. And only marginally better in the Larry Flynt thing.

To the subject of the thread. In NYC there are ten thousand old guys running around City Hall and the courts who know, literally, everything. They know where every political body is buried going back to Peter Stuyvesant. Many of them are part of the old time democratic machine who will not blink before spilling the beans on Rudy.

The ole liberal's smear jobs might not effect Rudy's popularity in New York. He was the mayor in a liberal state you know.

" Guiliani is my guy if he runs. Period."

- You said it pal, and if he's wise enough to pick Condi as a running mate, he'll kick Hitlery's butt from Long Island to Honolulu. Those FReepers who seem to think that Rudy's personal views on gun control are enough to keep him out of the White House are whistling in the dark. A President has little, if any, control on issues such as guns, gays and abortion (just look at all GWB has been able to accomplish during five years of staunch opposition on these issues - virtually nothing).
It's up to Congress and the Courts and, if whatever way they come down on these matters, Rudy would support. He is a decisive, aggressive, ruthless, eloquent, intelligent leader with charisma who is a natural as a potential Commander in Chief. I only wish he had experience at the state governorship level to round out his CV.

Nobody here much cares one way or the other.

Look, as I've relayed before, during his divorce Rudy lived on the upper east side with two gay men. Not crashing on the couch of a couple of gay guys, but a massive large apartment with probably six or seven bedrooms. Anyway, it took awhile for people to find out where he was living, but one of the news stations caught him coming out of the building and played the Odd Couple theme song over the image.

Again, nobody in NYC much cared, but that kind of living arrangement doesn't sit too well with a lot of people.

so Rudy was living with a couple of gays, and for that, some call him to the carpet.. and Hillary, well to put it non delicately, just may be a bonafide carpet muncher.. one wonders..

I agree. If he picked Condi, the two of them would be unstoppable.
