The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department. The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State. After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.
FBI is in charge of the investigation -- Boren's office is in charge of spinning and cover-up it looks like.
Apparently, it wasn't a story until the FBI brought a photo of Hinrichs to the Feed & Seed, asking if JHIII had been in there recently. The clerk remembered him, thus there is now a story about it.
Thanks, that clears it up.
Yes, it's the 2002 pic and not photoshopped.
I forget why anyone thought it was photoshopped??
susie
I'll risk it.
Yeah, that's what the caller said...thought that was surprising myself.
It certainly doesn't. As I said earlier on this thread, the planning that goes into making a bomb doesn't jibe with someone who's depressed. It does jibe with someone who's angry and has a plan.
If the depressed angle is true, I postulate that he was depressed quite a long time before this event, at a time when his depression made him a perfect target for Islamist handlers looking for someone vulnerable they could recruit, convert, and program to do their dirty work for them.
Remember that an American convert appeared in the last videotape warning. Does anyone think that was just an accident or a novel idea? To me, it was a glaring statement from the folks at AQ that attacks would now come from such American recruits. It might also have been a message to said recruits that their time had come to be the front line.
I looked back through the posts and saw you were the one who answered when I asked about the police setting off the second explosive device... was wondering if you might be able to answer PhiKapMom's question regarding a "Directional Device"? See Post #4218...

"Hinrichs Tried To Buy Ammonium Nitrate"
POSTED: 5:16 pm CDT October 4, 2005
UPDATED: 6:10 pm CDT October 4, 2005
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "NORMAN, Okla. -- The general manager of a Norman feed store said Tuesday that Joel Henry Hinrichs III had inquired about purchasing a significant amount of ammonium nitrate, the primary ingredient used in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.
Dustin Ellison, the general manager of Ellison Feed & Seed on Porter Avenue, said that a man matching Hinrichs' description had come into the store days before he blew himself up on OU's campus. Ellison said the man asked about ammonium nitrate, but couldn't offer a reason why he needed it."

"Dad: Oklahoma student bomber wasn't politically motivated"
Tuesday, October 4, 2005; Posted: 12:41 p.m. EDT (16:41 GMT) NORMAN, Oklahoma (AP) --
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The father of a University of Oklahoma student who committed suicide outside a packed football stadium using explosives said Monday his son didn't intend to harm anyone else or push a political agenda.
Joel Henry Hinrichs III, 21, died Saturday when a device attached to his body exploded about 8 p.m. while he sat on a bench, officials said.
The blast could be heard inside the stadium less than 100 yards away where more than 80,000 people attended OU's game against Kansas State.
Joel Hinrichs Jr. said that his son did not leave a suicide note and that FBI agents told him hydrogen peroxide was used to construct the bomb."

I think it would be more likely that our boy was just carrying a run of the mill inconspicuous campus-type backpack. If he was being surveilled and they were SURE he was toting a bomb there's likely to be someone authorized to take extreme measures to deal with such a situation. That doesn't mean that you'd know for sure that the thing would go off like it did---may have shot him and set it off unintentionally or there he may have had a deadman switch. As always we have to speculate on info derived from the News-hiders.
Kinda wonder just WHAT the stuff was that went Kaboom. Too strong to be ANFO evidently.
---What would a directional device do with a bomb? ---

I don't know much, but the claymore mine was very popular when I went into the Army.
I still can't believe the national news is not reporting on this story
Don't worry, the toothpaste is already out of the tube. They aren't going to be able to get it back in.
