Attempted Robbery Leads To Shooting In Tacoma (Armed citizen intervenes)

TACOMA - A shooting during an attempted robbery at a Tacoma auto store has sent two people to the hospital.

Police say a clerk at the Shucks Auto Supply near 72nd and Portland streets spotted and then confronted a man putting gas into a small motorcycle in their display window.

But the man told the clerk he was robbing the store anyway, and then pulled a gun.

However, another customer in the store was armed, and he pulled his own gun, yelling at the suspect to drop his weapon.

At some point, shots were then fired. Exact details are still sketchy, but the suspect ended up getting hit, as did a nearby store clerk.

The two wounded were taken to the hospital. Initial reports are that the clerk's wound was minor, but the suspect's wound was more serious. The customer who pulled the gun on the suspect was not injured.

The brother of the customer who had his own gun said the situation must have become dire.

"The suspect must have done something to have it coming because Joe wouldn’t have gotten involved and risked somebody else's life if it wasn't necessary," said Karl Phillips.

Police are still investigating.

And the good news is, according to my sources, the suspect is circling the drain.

Initial reports are that the clerk's wound was minor, but the suspect's wound was more serious.

That's heartening.

What's that smell? Oh, the winds are blowing from Tacoma.

That being said, i'm happy to hear such good news coming from the "City of Destiny."

How brazen can you get? Stealing a vehicle in a store window while customers and clerks are there? This guy was really STUCK ON STUPID!.........

"yelling at the suspect to drop his weapon. "

is't the slip of the sear a loud enough warning?

That's kinda confusing.

Police say a clerk at the Shucks Auto Supply near 72nd and Portland streets spotted and then confronted a man putting gas into a small motorcycle in their display window.

So there was a display motorcycle in a display window and that's what he was stealing?

Thats my understanding of it. I don't know if it's the same where you are, but in Washington State, auto parts stores sell tons of those 2 stroke mini-motorcycles so it's not surprising someone would try to rip one off.

Actually, the "Tacoma aroma" is nothing like it used to be when I was a kid. They have shut ASARCO down, and put scrubbers on the smokestacks of the woodmills.

Sounds like praise is due to the armed customer, too.

A proven fact that gun control works. In other words "hitting the target".

It is VERY important that witnesses are able to say that the shooter gave the criminal a chance.

This article points out the loss of manners in our society. In a polite society a suicide minimizes the involvement of others in the act and subsequent clean up.

That rude lout is no loss.

What's that smell?

Ahhhh yes. The aroma of Tacoma! Remember it well from when I was stationed at Fort Lewis.

I remember paying about $25 for a State of WA CCW permit in 1981 and having the perfect right to carry even on post. Nowadays, I hear that's forbidden. All personal firearms have to be locked in the outfit's arms room? What a pantload.
