South Carolina - A group of Lowcountry Animal Lovers is back from New Orleans with 25 furry survivors in need of a home.
The Humane Net Team is made up of volunteers from several Lowcountry Rescue Organizations.
The group spent 9 days in New Orleans rescuing animals left behind and distributing a truck load of supplies.
"We handed out food and crates, towels and they're begging for more. They don't have anything left, nothing. We brought 25 animals back that we rescued out of houses were people couldn't take them with them," says Barbara Bryant of the Humane Net Team.

Though many hurricane pets are finding a happy ending others are not.
A Hurricane Katrina Evacuee had to flee his Mississippi home but the shelters would not allow one of his family members to enter, Shuma, the family dog.
The family had no choice but to choose the shelter over their pet, and took Shuma to an animal shelter in Independence.
John Wyrick is trying to start a new life in Missouri but he may have to do it without Shuma.
That's because a woman who volunteered to take in the German Shepherd has refused to give it back.
Wyrick has a serious back injury that limits his abilities.
He raised and trained Shuma to help him with his daily routine.
A volunteer convinced Wyrick to sign the dog over to her for the time being.
But just weeks later, Lynn Nevills refuses to give the Shuma back saying her family is now attached to the dog and Wyrick should get a new one.
Local, Kansas City, residents have tried to help the Wyricks get Shuma back but Nevills refuses to negotiate.
There are many in need of a home.
The woman who won't give back Shuma should to entitled to a good FReeping at her home!
I'll share it with the statement that Lynn Neville is a selfish witch who is not teaching her "family", probable children, an important lesson in human relations.
An article reminding us of all the good that is being done for those pet's lost from the hurricane.
They also bring up Shuma another media outlet to get this story out.
Be nice if folks like FOX, CNN or MSNBC would consider following up on this story.
This lady should be arrested for theft, and if the mayor had any backbone, he would put her in jail, and seize the dog.
Obviously Fox is the best bet. Some Freepers here have an inside track to Hannity.
If people saw how many unwanted dogs and cats were killed at the "shelters" every day in America; they'd probably demand a temporary suspension of breeding!
Thanks for the ping.
Great story.
But Shuma was especially trained to help someone with a disability. Easy to say "get another dog", but Shuma had special abilities as far as her owner. So, it is not just a grief issue. That is like a seeing eye dog being fostered out and the family refusing to release him to the owner. As always, JMHO. :)
No. It is not theft. He signed the dog over. Not 'for the time being' as this article implies, but for good. He had no intent of getting the dog back when he left, or if he did, he was foolish to sign it. It wasn't till his situation changed that he decided to try to go back.
She's perhaps selfish, but legally she's got the right to keep the dog.
I agree....i'm against breeders...and feel that it should be a law requiring pets to be fixed....for at least 10 years until the situation is under control.....right now it's a big problem.
No - it's not like a seeing eye dog. She may be trained to retrieve things for him, but it's not in anyone's interests to blur the line between true service dogs who get full rights of entry from the ADA and 'helpful' dogs.
I sympathize with the guy, and the woman is a jerk.... My only distinction was that it isn' Shuma who is suffering, it's the man.
If what you say is correct (I have no way to validate that), the circumstances under which the contract was signed have changed and futhermore were made under extremem duress. She has still no legal right to the dog. Her assets should be seized and she should be jailed.
She broke no law.
He signed over ownership of the dog. I feel for him, but he did that.
I respect that viewpoint. It just sounded like he was taken advantage of while trying to save his friend/dog. I know I get attached very quickly to animals and it would be difficult to give up one. But, if indeed the original owner was pushed into signing, then it was wrong. He may have felt this was the only way to save Shuma. It is just a sad situation all the way around.
I cannot say that the living conditions for Shuma are loving. How can it be if a she refuses to return the beloved pet to his owner. I do not find that loving. What type of example is setting for her kids.
Yes, he is at least off the streets but loving I cannot agree with that.
I do agree, we need to what he can to help all pet's without a home.
That is a huge bump to your comment.
"Puppy mills" are a nightmare and the country is inundated with unwanted dogs & cats!
Look at the "dog flu" that was reported this week!
