But Shuma was especially trained to help someone with a disability. Easy to say "get another dog", but Shuma had special abilities as far as her owner. So, it is not just a grief issue. That is like a seeing eye dog being fostered out and the family refusing to release him to the owner. As always, JMHO. :)
No - it's not like a seeing eye dog. She may be trained to retrieve things for him, but it's not in anyone's interests to blur the line between true service dogs who get full rights of entry from the ADA and 'helpful' dogs.
I sympathize with the guy, and the woman is a jerk.... My only distinction was that it isn' Shuma who is suffering, it's the man.
Return Shuma. It is equal to steal a blind persons sight dog. This dog helps a handicapped person get through life. It is as if they stole the blind person's white cane and told them to go to the drug store and buy another. Lots of canes, non with special meaning to everyone.
