Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.

LOL! I have already linked to that one! It's fun (and sad, too!) to see some of the people who have posted that are not with us any more! Thanks for doing all this hard work. How long did it take you to put all of this together?

Thank you, Dave. Sometimes it's hard to choose which pledge to use if I don't do a brand new one for a thread, but I like that one, too. :)

It has to be such a huge task just restoring power and water and phone services to all those homes. And to think I get upset when our power goes off for 30 minutes or so. :(

Thanks for doing all this hard work. How long did it take you to put all of this together?

The first time - a LONG time! But I;ve changed the table backgrounds and format two or three times, and as long as I sorta keep up with the links at least every few days, it doesn't take anytime to get it ready to post. I just use the current HoF text and update the dates, URL #'s and titles.

The thing is, the FR Search Archives don't work past the first page, so without archiving the threads ourselves, it's really hard to find a particular one once it's gone off the search page.

Oh, Dolly..You haven't lived until you travel with 3 adult cats and 5 kittens in an evauation! We made it just fine with them..
We have no cats that were not rescued. save one, who is the offspring of a rescue..My daughter could not bear to give away one kitten that we had hand fed(they were abandoned in the mulch pile)
You remind me of my daughter and her talent for rescue..
I had a boxer once..very active but so sweet..I pray all goes well with your new pet.
I am at home in Waco..The drive home was a nightmare for my daughter and son in law near the Woodlands..worse than the trip out because of crazy drivers driving on the shoulders and cutting in..
I had my A/C repaired and serviced here today and am grateful I missed that drive yesterday. It was 108 in Waco so keeping this A/C going is a must!
The kids area also experienced rolling blackouts n of Houston yesterday..Instead of my going back there..I think my daughter is ready to return here. We'll see.
This time I'll have the place kitten proofed(lost one vase..NBD)All the family pictures are now removed from the bookcase and the little china and crystal stuff is up high or under the sofa..LOL
God made kittens cute, funny and adorable so we would not kill them! ;)

I am on my old dial up overloaded computer..I finally found where I could diaable pictures..I miss the fun but it doesn't take me 10 minutes to load!..I can go put in a load of laundry and clean a kitchen counter, fold clothes while I wait on my email to load..I am at my daughter's so much that I have the good fast one there.

With its helicopters, airplanes, boats, trucks and thousands of employees who follow orders, the military can provide invaluable help during natural disasters. But in a free country, the military must always remain under civilian authority, not in charge.

That’s one of the bedrock principles of our Constitution and our freedoms.

The armed forces’ responsibility is to protect us from foreign enemies, not from homegrown criminals – and certainly not from criminals as defined by some colonel or general.

Surely most members of Congress understand that and surely most will reject President Bush’s suggestion that the Pentagon be put in charge after bad natural disasters.

For that to happen, Congress would have to repeal a 1878 law that forbids the military from engaging in domestic law enforcement without Congressional approval.

It’s doubtful that even many military officers would want such a responsibility. They are trained to fight, not to oversee huge bureaucracies charged with rescuing people and then feeding and sheltering them.

National Guard troops are traditionally sent to help local law-enforcement officers maintain order after natural disasters. But troops on such duty are under the command of state governors, not the secretary of defense.

Mr. Bush’s frustration with the failures of civilian authorities is understandable and widely shared.

But the appropriate response is to put qualified civilians in charge and give them the resources to make and carry out effective plans.
It is not to ask the Pentagon to try to take on a civilian responsibility – and in the process, get Americans accustomed to the idea that the way to solve domestic problems is with uniformed people carrying guns.
